a letter from the founder

Black lives matter. We stand as one. We’re in this together. We are a vegan food-centric publication, yes, but we have a platform, and I’ve always been told, “If you have a platform, use it.” The injustice in this country is more apparent now than ever. Let’s all come together and do our part to end racism. The content in this issue was finished before recent events, so we decided to continue with publishing this magazine as-is, but I couldn’t let it go to print without acknowledging what’s happening in the world. 24 hours in nyc

When it comes to wellness, New Yorkers are hardcore. We stand in line for hours before the sun rises to run our epic marathon, throw back green juices in the dead of winter without a single shiver, and manage to find some sense of calm during the daily bustle of a morning commute. New Yorkers are productive people, so we’re not wasting any time with this piece. When you’ve got 24 hours between Brooklyn and Manhattan, follow this guide to optimize your wellness routine. BROOKLYN If the prospect of traversing boroughs makes you cringe, you can easily practice wellness within the borders of Brooklyn. Start your morning early with a heart-pumping spin class at one of Flywheel’s many locations. More of a boxing/bootcamp fan? Overthrow Boxing in Williamsburg is a great spot…

HEAR WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY! WANNA DATE? Melissa Bartow @eatwannadate GOOD GOOD VEGAN BAKERY Noelle Arroyave @goodgoodveganbakery SEITAN’S HELPER Amanda Fox @seitanshelper WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA FOR YOUR COMPANY? I had the idea for Wanna Date? while I was a student at NYU working at an acai bowl shop. Everything we served was sweetened with added sugar, honey, agave, or Nutella, and I thought we should just use blended dates. I went looking for a “date butter” to drizzle on the bowls—but it didn’t exist! I kept seeing popular cookie companies on Instagram doing these massive stuffed cookies that looked amazing! When I would check to see if they had vegan options available, I found little to none. I thought, “This is crazy! There’s a huge market of vegans out there that would love these cookies…
