Like many workout buddies, Brooke didn’t start out as one of my best friends. She was the friend of a friend at a barbecue. PERFECT YOUR FORM In every move, engage your core and pull your shoulders back and down to open up your chest, says Mason. When standing, keep your knees slightly bent to protect your lower back. Look forward at the anchor point of the ropes, not down, to maintain neck and spine alignment. Oh, and a pro tip: Keep your grip on the rope handles light—squeezing tightly only wastes energy. BATTLE SLAM Start in a low squat, feet wider than shoulders. Grab handles with palms facing each other and raise them above shoulders. Powerfully slam both ropes down at the same time; repeat.
