on the road again….

The first few years running Diesel World I spent just about every other weekend on the road. Hitting as many shows, shops, or races I could. The last couple years I spent a little more time at home concentrating on other things to help grow the brand. Well oddly enough, during this “pandemic”, I’ve gotten myself back to the normal travel schedule I had years ago. My status with Hilton and American Airlines are back. So far I’ve logged a little over 40,000 miles. I think it was the first two weeks of quarantine that pushed me to make things happen. Being forced to stay home makes you think about things and what’s important. People, family and friends. There’s a lot of people I haven’t seen for a long while. Moving…

Racing News NEW DIESEL RECORD AT PIKES PEAK Covering 12 miles in 11 minutes and 24 seconds is no small feat if you’re speaking in terms of Pikes Peak, the International Hill Climb that’s also known as the Race to the Clouds. On August 30, Scott Birdsall (owner of Chuckles Garage) set a new diesel record at Pike’s Peak in his Cummins-powered ’49 Ford called Old Smokey, and he did it with support from some of the biggest names in the diesel industry. Freedom Racing Engines supplied the 6.7L common-rail Cummins which, thanks to Dynomite Diesel Products’ injectors and 12mm CP3, compound Garrett turbos, a Bell intercooler, and a Nitrous Express water-meth system, belts out 1,400 hp with a ton of stamina. scheid diesel extravaganza 2020

When industry giants like Dan Scheid and Jeremy Wagler team up on something, you’re going to get your money’s worth. Such was the case for the 24th running of the August blockbuster known as the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. Relocated to Wagler Motorsports Park in Lyons, Indiana for 2020, the 100-acre complex played host to ODSS drag racing by day, truck and tractor pulling by night, and very busy show ‘n shine and dyno competitions in between. In a year that has been anything but stable and predictable, the Scheid/Wagler partnership ended up being the shot in the arm the diesel industry needed. Thousands of enthusiasts turned out to spectate, compete, or work, and by all accounts it was one of the smoothest run renditions of the Extravaganza in recent memory. Things…

project obsessed

While some might think getting twelve separate articles out of one project might be a challenge, you’ve got to consider the starting point of that project and the final end goal. Take Project Obsessed for example here, when we took ownership of this 1996 Ford F350 last year, it was basically stock with nothing more than a 20-year old flash tuner, some outdated cosmetic upgrades and a terribly riding front leveling kit. The old 7.3L Power Stroke under the hood was still running strong with 224,000 miles on it, but like the rest of the truck needed quite a bit of attention if it had any aspirations of hanging with a new 400+ horsepower 6.7L Power Stroke. Now over a year into the build and upgrades we find ourselves well past…

a family heirloom is reborn…

You see them all the time, especially during planting and harvest season. The service trucks that show up in the field to keep equipment running are the backbone of any farming operation. When he didn’t like the prices he was seeing while shopping for the family farm’s new service truck, Chris Ohl decided to take matters into his own hands. He would build it himself—and it would be one of a kind. After all, his great grandpa’s ’51 Chevrolet 3800, a 30,000-mile 1-ton grain truck that’d been parked for a number of years, was practically begging to be transformed into a service rig. WELL-PRESERVED PATINA Combining his wrenching, welding and auto body skills with the knowledge he’d amassed in other encounters with the 12-valve Cummins, Chris set out on what would become…
