out with the old

Ican’t seem to buy vehicles without a diesel anymore. Before I ramble on here since I’m going to be talking about a couple “unconventional diesels”, know that I have had my 7.3L Ford since 2002, daily drove it for 18-years, not so much a daily anymore, but it takes care of all my truck needs, racing, hauling or towing. These little diesels I’ve gotten into are just supplementing my diesel fleet. A few years ago, in search of a better daily driver, I bought a 2011 335d (“d” for diesel) BMW. Amazing car, super-fast, handles great, and is capable of 40+ MPG. Now, before buying it, I knew that these cars had serious maintenance issues in stock form. The PCM fails commonly, intake carbon build up is excessive, valve cover gasket…

EVENTS WEST COAST DIESEL DRAG RACE SERIES After a 2-year hiatus, West Coast diesels will have a racing home in 2021! With Hot Shot’s Secret signing on as the series title sponsor, the Hole Shot Diesel Series will kick off on April 24th with our own Diesel World event at Sacramento Raceway Park under the name of “Golden State Diesel Fest.” With the explosion of the ODSS series on the East Coast in recent years, the same style of racing will be brought westward. That means the same classes, the same rules, and eighth-mile action vs. quarter-mile. On top of that, the ultimate plan is to develop an East vs. West World Finals event in which top points earners from both series can battle each other at the end of the season. what gm should have built

When John Eilermann of St. Louis, MO turned to Jeff McCord and his team at LinCo Diesel Performance in Troy, MO his goal was to have the team build him a Jeep that would be rugged for off road use but have room for friends for hunting trips. After discussing his wants and needs for the rig McCord showed him pictures of a ’71-’72 Chevy Suburban and he was sold, changing direction on the project from a Jeep to a safari-styled classic Chevy rolling on 40s with room for the whole crew. The full-size classic rig would have plenty of room for passengers when crawling through the back country as well as space for a potent Duramax diesel drivetrain to motivate the heavy rig through just about any situation he…

8-wheeled wonder

If it’s true that the more you do something, the better you get at it, then Miami’s José Lugo’s skill in creating imaginative rat rods might be approaching perfection. José already has five hand-built, patina creations in his past and each was better than the last. This one is trophy-rat numba-six! José works in the family electrostatic industrial painting business, specializing in powder coating. Although customer projects pay the bills, his real joy is the creativity involved in building one-of-a-kind, radical rides. In addition to dispensing with such traditional touches like chrome and paint, the rat rod builder’s challenge is assembling an imaginative collection of unrelated parts and adapting them to traditional roles. Need to sit down? How about a pair of re purposed tractor seats? Need a shifter for the…
