I had wanted to get to this little cove for sunset, but I spent too much time at the mines and arrived here when it was practically dark! Photography competitions continue to provide us with a wealth of inspiration and none more so than the travel photographer of the year. since 2003, the awards has showcased stunning photography from amateurs and professionals covering every corner of the globe and the latest competition received more than 20,000 images from 142 countries. its extensive range of categories included people, the natural world, culture and specialist topics such as hot/cold and the beauty of light, allowing for a diverse mix of images to be submitted. Launched in 2007 by wildlife photographers and enthusiasts Tom Sullam and Paul Joynson-hicks, the comedy Wildlife Photography awards gave photographers around the world the chance to bring some humour to the normally serious world of wildlife photography. The awards proved to be a major hit, so it was no surprise to see it return in 2018. The latest awards drew in several thousand entries from around the world, each hoping to win the accolade of funniest animal photo of the year. Mary McGowan triumphed with three awards for her photo ‘caught in the act’, an image featuring a shocked squirrel. as well as scooping the ultimate accolade of Overall Winner, it also bagged the affinity People’s choice award as well as the alex Walker’s Serian creatures of the Land award.…
