WELCOME TO THE MAY 2020 issue of Digital SLR Photography. As you might have expected, I’m going to have to talk about the Covid-19 virus and how it’s affecting everything we do. Charlie by Marcus Morgan Instagram: @marcusphotographyuk “It was a very hot summer's afternoon in Dorset so to soften the shadows in the lavender field we sheltered from the harsh sunlight under a tree. I created the shot using a 200mm lens to compress the lavender around the model and used a low angle to include some foreground interest and add depth to the composition.” Sony Alpha 7R II with 70-200mm f/2.8 GM lens. Exposure: 1/1000sec at f/2.8 (ISO 100). Mercy by Marcus Morgan Instagram: @marcusphotographyuk (Above) “This shot was challenging. It was taken on a central island of a pedestrian crossing in the centre of Bristol, with traffic passing on both sides. I set my camera on a low tripod, handheld my flash set to slow-sync mode, giving an exposure of 2.5 seconds. Mercy chose the amazing red…

coastal reflections

CAMERA: SONY ALPHA 7R III / LENS: SONY FE 20MM F/1.8 IN EARLY SPRING, while the landscape is beginning to awaken, the trees remain bare and flora is yet to fully bloom rural landscapes can look lacklustre. One place where the season makes very little difference to its appearance, however, is the coast. In spring, the sunrise and sunset times are also at more social hours making it a fantastic and versatile option for this time of year. A low tide typically produces less dynamic images as there’s no water to wash around foreground elements like rocks and groynes, so if your golden hour falls during a low tide what can you do? Plenty! Leave the boulders behind for a while and look for beaches with an expanse of golden sand and…
