gusto

Conducting a fair and balanced multi-bike shootout comes down to a single word: work. Years of experience have proven that the only way to produce a quality comparison is for a team of experienced and objective testers to bust their tails and collectively come up with definitive conclusions. While we feel that the end result always justifies the sweat equity, there are some who claim that shootouts are no longer relevant or that they aren’t worth the amount of time we put into them. Here are the biggest misconceptions that I hear regarding this topic: Myth #1: “Modern bikes are all so good that it doesn’t matter which one you buy.” Reality: I won’t argue the first part of this claim; all the new bikes are fairly awesome. This wasn’t the case…

france wins mxon, usa second

It was perhaps the best performance Team USA has turned in since winning the event in 2011, but the US squad of Justin Barcia, Cooper Webb, and Jeremy Martin came up just short of bringing home the Chamberlain trophy at this year’s Motocross of Nations in Ernee, France, finishing just behind the home team. Barcia won the opening race of the day for MXGP and MX2 riders after a tough battle with France’s Marvin Musquin, while Martin came away in fifth and second MX2 rider behind Musquin. The Open/MX2 moto was next, and Webb grabbed the holeshot to start the race, but France’s Romain Febvre came from behind to take the lead from the American rider. Webb tried a final pass attempt for the lead but fell in the process and settled…

The Maxxcross EN seems to fit all my terrain. Is that a good tire? What would you guys recommend for a recovery drink? Is Muscle Milk or Cytomax good? Or just regular chocolate milk? How about milk to go? Izaih Ashe Ardrossan, Alberta, Canada A good off-road tire is, as you alluded…

won for all

Although this year’s 90th edition of the International Six Days Enduro ended in controversy—the final team standings may ultimately be decided by lawyers—there’s one thing that is not in dispute: Ryan Sipes rode the race of his life. From his win in the opening test of day one to his domination of the E2-class final motocross test, after more than 800 miles of transfers and racing, Sipes accomplished something in Slovakia that no US rider has been able to do before him: He is the first American to claim the overall individual victory at the prestigious event. In a year where weather wetted the course at night and greased it up in the afternoon, making the grass tracks and thick woods that much more difficult, Sipes turned in a dominating run…

2016 450cc moto cross shootout

Twenty-sixteen proved to be a “minor update” year for a couple of brands, as the Yamaha and Honda received just a few key refinements. Kawasaki, KTM, and Husqvarna introduced pretty much whole-new machines from the ground up, while only Suzuki decided to rely on the changes it made in 2015 to get it through 2016. The air fork is still in full force on three of the seven bikes in the shootout, but it looks as if KTM might be making the change soon as its European-model ’16 SX-Fs come equipped with WP air fork technology. We also decided to bring back the odd man out; the KTM 350 SX-F came out to play in the shootout this year. After riding the 350 SX-F earlier in the year we were impressed…
