THE STRANGEST SECRET Every once in a great while, we off-road riders will stumble upon a single riding tip that totally transforms the way we ride our motorcycles. This often comes in the form of advice from a more experienced rider or a tip we read in a magazine, but it can also be the result of discovering precisely the technique that we most need to advance our skills. Such was the case for me when, over the course of several years, I put into practice something I’d been told to do my entire life but had never fully understood, and when I did, it completely changed how I rode a motorcycle. Although I didn’t realize it at the time, I initially encountered this concept the first time I rode a Christini…

dungey and webb clinch titles

History of sorts was made at this year’s 14th round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series in Houston’s NRG Stadium, with Ryan Dungey giving KTM its first-ever AMA Supercross title. Of course, Dungey got a title too—the second of his career, after finishing second in the race behind 450-class rookie Cole Seely, who led every lap on his Team Honda HRC CRF450R. Oddly, Dungey was nowhere to be found when it came to talk of preseason favorites at the start of the season. Those honors went to Ken Roczen, Eli Tomac, and Trey Canard. And after Dungey finished off the podium (fourth) at Anaheim 1, most thought the slight was justified. However, by round four Dungey had acquired the red number plate signifying the series point lead. And one race…

to the victor go the spoils

CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT RICKY CARMICHAEL AMATEUR SX Out of more than 1,400 entries, 35 champions were crowned at this year’s sixth annual Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross, as action wrapped up after two full days of racing on the historic infield of Daytona International Speedway back in March. Among the stars who shined the brightest were Darian Sanayei, Jalek Swoll, Austin Forkner, Chase Bell, Mitchell Harrison, Daniel Baker, and Tristan Charboneau, to name a few. Monster Energy Team Green Kawasaki’s Sanayei was one of the top performers in the 450 A/Pro Sport and 250 All-Star A/B classes, along with Orange Brigade KTM’s Baker, while Rockstar Energy Factory Husqvarna Racing’s Swoll terrorized the Mini Classes and was particularly impressive en route to his win over Stilez Robertson in the Mini SR. 2 (12-14) race. One…

2015 mta two-stroke nationals at glen helen

It seems like every year hundreds of two-strokes are pulled from the barns and garages to be reunited to do battle in the springtime at Glen Helen. The MTA Two-Stroke Nationals are almost a biblical experience for some of the older folks as they get to hear and smell their past childhood memories. For the younger generation that missed the two-stroke era it’s more of a, “Hey, can I borrow your bike for the weekend?” type of race. But what this event does for both generations is bring together the passion both have for two-strokes in one premixed, carbureted, fun-filled day. Don’t hesitate to bring out the old two-stroke to race up and down the hills of Glen Helen next year, as there are classes for all makes and models. In…

brabec fifth overall at 25th abu dhabi desert challenge

RICKY BRABEC WINS THE JUNIOR CLASS AT THE 25TH ABU DHABI DESERT CHALLENGE. Shortly after completing testing on this month’s off-road comparison, Ricky Brabec hopped on a plane and successfully completed his first rally and finished in fine style, earning the Junior division win at the 25th Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge Powered by Nissan in the United Arab Emirates. The five-day race became a four-day affair when a huge sandstorm grounded event helicopters on the final day, forcing organizers to cancel the stage with results after the fourth day becoming the final ones. Red Bull KTM’s Marc Coma won for the eighth time, giving him a good start to the FIM Crosscountry Rallies World Championship, followed by teammate Sam Sunderland and KTM Warsaw Rally Team’s Pablo Quintanilla. Red Bull KTM’s Ruben Faria…
