Did I ever imagine… that I would see a durag on the cover of Vogue? No, reader, I did not. Although this potent symbol of black life – of self-preservation, resistance and authenticity – has an important place in popular culture, it is rarely viewed through the prism of high fashion. Yet here we have the most fabulous, aspirational and beautiful durag. How exciting. It takes a person of extraordinary charisma to pull off such a moment. Step forward Rihanna, a woman I am lucky enough to count among my closest creative collaborators, and who I could also call my ultimate muse. What I love about Rih is that it’s always new territory, which is thrilling – not to mention a huge feat. For this month’s shoot, she wanted “Rihanna for a…

If the old adage “you reap what you sow” holds true, then this season’s floral-fanatic designers must have been on their very best behaviour. Blooms abound from Michael Kors, Molly Goddard, Giambattista Valli, Paco Rabanne and more, but unlike previous seasons, there’s something deeply intoxicating about this crop. Whether you play the butter-wouldn’t-melt ingénue in primrose-coloured meadow sprigs punctuated with a sweeping ruffle, or you de-prettify in prints set against a pitch-black backdrop (they boast a kind of 21st-century take on grunge, don’t you think?), all have an edge that will keep admirers second-guessing what you’re thinking. Even a sweet, bamboo-handled bag and bow-tied sandals don’t lean towards saccharine. Just add your best game face. HAIR: KEI TERADA. MAKE-UP: LUCY BURT. NAILS: MICHELLE HUMPHREY. 1 THE SUPER-CLUTCH Come summer-party season, an oversized clutch offers not only room for an extra pair of flats, but also the opportunity to adopt a hug-and-tuck stance that makes for a fresh silhouette. 2 RECYCLED JEWELLERY London-based fine jeweller Anabela Chan’s collection of high-octane floral earrings uses aluminium from recycled cans mixed with lab-grown gems, silver and gold. More than two years in the making, this is a serious sustainable style win for Chan – and anyone looking to flaunt their eco ethics. 3 THE 1970s PLATFORM Take last summer’s dress to new heights with a statement platform. 4 SILVER STAR Planning on treating yourself to one purchase? If it’s the wow factor you’re after, you can’t go wrong with a hit of molten silver, especially when it’s by Prada. Share the love – and reap…
