Well, someone had to do it! Brisbane, Australia-based Charged Garage has successfully converted a Mk1 Cortina to all-electric operation. The 1965 Mk1 1500 four-door is fully road-legal and has an expected range of 150 km (93 miles) between charges — though Charged Garage hope to extend this as battery technology develops. With assistance fromTraction EV who supply electric conversion kits, Charged Garage were able to adapt the car to take the Hyper9 electric motor, powered by batteries from a written-off Tesla, relatively easily and without modifying the bodyshell. The motor sits on custom mounts and bolts up to the standard Cortina gearbox using an adaptor plate and flywheel convertor, while the batteries sit on top in a custom housing. No, not the football club — Sevenoaks and District Motor Club will once again stage its popular Motorsport AtThe Palace sprint over the Bank Holiday weekend of May 24-25. The two-day, non-championship status Crystal Palace Sprint event, which takes place at Crystal Palace Park using parts of the former race circuit, will be run along the same lines as previous years, where classes are decided by year of manufacture rather than engine size.
