fusions, contrasts, synergies

Contaminations, the web, social networks, fashion shows in and outside halls, presentations and performances, openings, make-up, soundtracks, scenery, art exhibitions: everything belonging to the complex world that falls under the definition of “fashion system”. An extremely receptive mechanism that not only relates to the apparel sector, but extends into seemingly extraneous and remote areas and, so, the first issue of Collezioni Donna - dedicated to Summer 2017 - has gathered together ideas from various fronts that gravitate around fashion weeks of international appeal. In the pieces on current trends - through important and accurate research - we have also included images of this fashion system captured in various capitals worldwide. the floating world

The amazing world of ukiyo-e in Milan An extraordinary exhibition in Milan offers the rare opportunity of exploring the wonderful world of ukiyo-e, a Japanese art form that first emerged in Kyoto in the late sixteenth century as a depiction of everyday life and became extremely popular all over Japan in the eighteenth century. Over 200 works by the greatest ukiyo-e artists, i.e. Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), Utagawa Hiroshima (1797-1858) and Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806), provide a perfect example of the ukiyo-e, a Japanese term that can be translated as ‘image of the floating world’. Organised by Comune di Milano in collaboration with MondoMostre Skira and curated by Rossella Menegazzo, the exhibition runs at the Palazzo Reale in Milan until the 29th of January 2017. Il fantastico mondo dell’ukiyo-e protagonista di una mostra a…

Discovering the great Belgian painter Al Momu di Anversa si riscopre il grande pittore belga Rik Wouters, a Fauvist painter from Belgium, was born in 1882 in Antwerp and died young in Amsterdam in 1916, before his 34th birthday. 2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of this great artist, who was unknown to the masses. In September, the MoMu in Antwerp took the intimate relationship Wouters had with his wife, Nel, and made it the premise for the exhibition of his works in the museum of this Flemish city. Through the simple domestic scenes he painted, several Belgian designers, such as Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, Veronique Branquinho, Christian Wijnants, Martin Margiela, Bruno Pieters, Walter Van Beirendonck, and Dirk Van Saene, have created their…
