a talk about...

The much discussed, beloved, and lamentable relationship between Fashion and Art can be read among the pages of this new issue of Collezioni Donna, which ends with everything about the 2018 Spring- Summer season. Inevitably, this connection has made a comeback, that is, if it ever left in the first place. The topic is known, actually, very well-known, because the events and signs involved are so strong you cannot but dwell on them. Two subjects in the mirror. Fashion looks at art, it respects it, is nourished by it, purchases it, collects it, draws its inspiration from it, it partakes in projects with it, supports it, makes it an indispensable aspect of its vision and, in part, it influences it, thus, inventing a relationship of reciprocity. Art, on the other…

surrealist emotions

The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, hosts the “Dali and Schiaparelli, In Daring Fashion” exhibition until January 14th. This special location, with its visionary architecture, is home to the most important art collection in the world by the Catalan master, with over 2,000 works - 96 of which are oils - and also watercolors, drawings, sculptures, prints, and objects in a unique sequence that recounts his entire artistic story. This is where Dali’s surrealist view approaches the world of Elsa, his dear friend, with whom he worked for years, giving life to a new fashion history. They shared a vision of the world that was outside of the box and reached beyond the conventional. She was ready to welcome the provocations of artists, translating them into accessories and dresses,…

This splendid Maison bring together all its traditional metiers: couture, pret-a-porter, jewellery, watches, leather goods, footwear, accessories, and fragrances, as well as artisanal workshops. irving penn: an undiscussed master

His name is undoubtedly closely linked to fashion photography and his work is, without a doubt, one of the best examples in the entire history of fashion photography thanks to his innate ability of capturing the latest trends on the best models of the time. An extraordinary ability that allowed him to create instantly recognisable and truly iconic pictures. And yet Irving Penn (1917-2009) was much more than a fashion photographer as perfectly highlighted by the over 235 photographs in the eponymous exhibition currently on display in Paris. One of the undiscussed masters of fashion photography started in 1943 to take fashion pictures for American Vogue and continued to do so for seventy years. At the same time though, he revolutionised the concept of contemporary portraiture by getting rid of…

passion, power, politics

Focusing on the story of seven premieres in seven different cities from 1642 to 1934, the “Opera: Passion, Power and Politics” exhibition summarises four centuries of the incredible history of opera through over 330 extraordinary objects. Such as, for example, Verdi’s original score for Il Nabucco (1842) and the costumes designed by Salvador Dali for the 1949 stage “Salome” directed by Peter Brook. Organised in collaboration with the Royal Opera House in London, the first ever exhibition to explore opera with such a comprehensive and exhaustive approach is at the prestigious Victoria & Albert Museum in London, until 25th February 2018. Concentrandosi sulla storia di sette prime in sette città diverse a partire dal 1642 per arrivare al 1934, la mostra “Opera: Passion, Power and Politics” racconta una serie di capitoli…

interview with buzz carter, event director, fashion svp

What is Fashion SVP? Fashion SVP is the largest and fastest growing apparel and accessory sourcing show in the UK and takes place from 16 – 17 January 2018 at London’s Olympia. Launched six years ago, Fashion SVP takes place twice per year (in January and June) and attracts over 120 manufacturers from across the UK, Europe and the Mediterranean countries. These manufacturers are specifically selected, and they offer visitors a huge variety of technical and production capabilities. It does not matter if you are seeking a manufacturer who can work with traditional woven or knit fabrics, or one who can work with sports and technical fabrics; it does not matter what volumes you require from 100 to 100,000 and beyond; and it does not matter if you have your own design…
