looking like new

See the video @TradeTrucks.com.au The non-appearance of a few of Australia’s major truck makers at the 2021 Brisbane Truck Show may have left many attendees scratching their heads in bewilderment, but it proved to be a blessing for the Heritage Truck Association Australia. Generally, the association holds its annual show on the third weekend of May at the Rocklea Showgrounds, coinciding with the biennial Brisbane Truck Show every second year. Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA), organiser of the Brisbane Truck Show, had cross-promoted the Heritage Truck Show, encouraging visitors to the Sunshine State capital to take in the Rocklea event while in town. But with Isuzu Trucks vacating its 2021 main floor show position, the baton was passed to the Heritage Truck Association to fill the gap, and its committee jumped at…

symbiotic success

The workforce behind each truck is measured in the thousands The first half of 2021 has certainly been a memorable time for Paccar Australia and its leading dealer group, Brown & Hurley. For Paccar, it’s now 50 years since a K125 cab-over affectionately known as the ‘Grey Ghost’ became the first Kenworth truck to roll off the Bayswater (Vic) production line. For Brown & Hurley, this year notches 75 years since the fateful day in 1946 when Alan Brown and Jack Hurley cobbled together their Army discharge pay to create a company bearing their surnames. It was, however, in 1964 that Paccar and Brown & Hurley forged the first bonds that would glue the companies so intrinsically together. After all, that was the year Brown & Hurley became Australia’s first Kenworth distributor and, soon…

white hot truck sales hold whip hand

With investment growth for plant and machinery in rarefied air generally for the economy, it would beggar belief if commercial vehicle sales were not following suit. And so it is that Truck Industry Council (TIC) T-Mark figures for May reach 3,639 units for a year-to-date (YTD) total of 15,179. That’s the top month so far this year, beating March’s 3,558. Those numbers are giving 2018’s top of the last boom May performance – 3,913/15,739 – a serious scare. And that is quite extraordinary, as this boom cycle has taken less than half the time of the Global Financial Crisis-impacted last one. With 2019’s 3,556/14,817 starting to be left in this year’s dust, the comparisons with the last peak are perhaps more relevant. This seems reasonable, given the three Japanese market-leading makes are tracking closer to,…

The hordes of trucking fans were just fantastic Welcome to sunny Townsville, ladies and gentlemen. It’s a town that has been in the news a lot lately and rarely for good reasons. So, I’d like to change that by covering something heart-warming from the top end of the country. I had been looking forward to heading up to the unofficial capital of the tropical north for quite a while, especially this time of the year as the humidity is at a level where you can feel like a normal human rather than a giant sponge. The reason for being in the sunny tropics was to share the coverage of one of Townsville’s biggest fundraising events, the annual Convoy for the Cure. Here’s the thing: it is a great event. The people involved in…
