Spring is here and we have some fresh ideas for your kitchen, bathroom and bedroom projects. Here at EKBB, we take a lot of pride in selecting real-life kitchen case studies to showcase what we think you, our readers, will love. Some styles will always go down well thanks to being practical, classical and easy to live with (hello Shaker!). But we also love to show you things that are a bit different; projects that embrace new colourways and ideas or incorporate interesting design elements. With this in mind, we are bringing you two gorgeous green kitchens this issue (see One with Nature on page 34 and A Time for Revival on page 44). And our stunning cover kitchen, Statement Style on page 22, features taupe cabinetry and the unique touch…

A double-fronted, seven-bedroom Victorian villa in South West London certainly had the potential to be a spacious family home, but it first needed to undergo an extensive renovation, as owner Geno Robinson explains. ‘The house was in dire need of an update, especially the tiny kitchen, separate dining room and sitting room on the ground floor, which hadn’t been touched for years.’ ‘The island is large to suit the scale of the room and also features strikingly curvaceous legs’ Geno, who works in TV production, and husband, Mark, a company director, have five children, aged between five and 17. Before they moved into the villa, the couple contacted interior designer Sean Cochrane of Cochrane Design to undertake a complete renovation of the house, after being introduced to him by a mutual friend. As…

What was your brief for this room? Geno and Mark wanted space for their family to eat, cook and relax informally, as well as somewhere they could host more glamorous dinner parties or drinks with friends. They were also mindful that such a large room could feel empty and rather soulless, so we thought carefully about ensuring it had character and reflected the age of the property. How did you begin designing the space? The layout is based on distinct zones for cooking, dining and seating, with the same flooring used throughout to unite the space. We also added half-height classic wall panelling around the room to add traditional character. The island is the focus of the room – it measures five metres long and had to be brought in on a flatbed…

‘The green was a perfect way to pull the look together and the oak features are a great pop against the paint’ While renovating their five-bedroom Victorian villa in leafy South London, Dorcas and Justin Pavry strove to create a warm, friendly family kitchen that included as much useful storage as possible. After moving in, the couple – who have three children – spent a year living in the space before making any changes. ‘We wanted to work out how we used the different areas and where the natural light fell before making any improvements,’ says Dorcas. The property, which backs onto one of London’s most established parks, had remained untouched since the 1970s, so there was ample opportunity to refurbish. ‘The old kitchen had mustard Formica units and a hatch…
