Harper's Bazaar India

Harper's Bazaar India November 2019

Harper’s Bazaar is the oldest, continuously published fashion magazine in the world; Harper’s Bazaar has been the bastion of fabulous fashion for more than 142 years. As the 29th international edition, Harper’s Bazaar India matches the exacting standards that its cousins have set around the world in the areas of fashion, editorial content, and photographic superiority. Harper’s Bazaar India is a magazine that celebrates the best in luxury, design and style. It’s where fashion gets personal. While it’s a fashion magazine, and the emphasis is on fashion, it is also a champion of personal style. Harper’s Bazaar understands that women want to know the latest news and fashion trends, yet encourages a very personal expression of that style. It believes women are fabulous at every age, and is committed to celebrating that in every issue.

my wonderful life

THIS HAS BEEN A YEAR OF FIRSTS. It started when Bazaar became the first Indian magazine to feature activist, actor, and founder of i_weigh Jameela Jamil on its May 2019 cover. Sans digital distortion. An advocate for body positivity, her narrative was strong, the message clear. And her voice in step with our ethics. Recently, when she replaced the term body positivity with “body liberation”, I realised that our ideas were still in sync! Described as “…not thinking about my body at all. No hate. No love…”, a kind of “self acceptance/neutrality”, it seemed as if Jameela had read the mission statement for our November cover. Sakshi Sindwani, Lakshmi Rana, Kusha Kapila, Sandra Nandeibam, and Paloma Monnappa come together to celebrate a new normal. Where everyone is different but the same. From…

the big ten

It was August 2018 and at Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai, Good Earth showed their first-ever clothing collection celebrating the craft of gota-patti embellishment, native to Rajashtan. To many who attended, this was Good Earth—purveyors of dining, décor, and home products—claiming their piece of the retail pie in the handcrafted apparel segment: From lifestyle to fashion, what could be more logical? What most of them didn’t know, however, was that this fashion show—titled The Miniaturist, due to its detailing that needed to be seen up close—had been in the making for nearly a decade. Since Sustain’s inception in 2009, the brand had quietly offered several ready-to-wear apparel collections that championed age-old crafts, from handwoven textiles to hand-embellishments. “We chose to name it Sustain to remind ourselves that this brand cares about…
