cds designers on the world stage

New Zealand kitchen designers and Certified Designer Society members are once again in the spotlight on the world stage with the announcement of the finalists in several international awards, including the Society of British Interior Design (SBID) International Awards, German Design Awards and the UK Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards. Four CDS designers have all been shortlisted across the three international awards. 2018 saw CDS chairperson and professional member Celia Visser take out top honours at the SBID Awards, and several Kiwi designers hope to do the same this year. The homeowners were after a kitchen design that could sit effortlessly within the aesthetic of the home. This is a small house, so it was important for the kitchen to suit compact apartment-style living without cutting corners when it came to quality, style and function. It needed to be a balanced, inviting space with a mix of modern features and understated characteristics, all within the budget and renovation requirements. Timber was integrated into the design for its natural softness, yet a rough, sawn finish was utilised to add a touch of modernity. This lovely waterfront home was in need of a kitchen that matched its world-class mountain views. The homeowners’ brief was simple: to keep the original feel of the kitchen, create space and enhance the natural light. This task was executed incredibly well by Kitchens Queenstown The once small, outdated pantry now houses a hidden fridge and freezer, as well as accommodating two storage towers with internal drawers. A clean entrance to the kitchen, where it meets the dining area, has been created. This opens up the space in the room, allowing the kitchen to feel more spacious. Steel was selected for the breakfast bar and main benchtop to create continuity throughout the kitchen. A dual-toned splashback was chosen to deflect the midday sun, while adding a subtle dramatic look to the space. The…
