Swimming pools have been a hot topic for the team this month (mostly wishing we had one or were lying next to one!) and with two of the houses in the issue boasting gorgeous pools, swimming pool blue was the obvious choice for our Scheme of the Month story (page 31). Blue is such a soothing colour and a great decorating hue to freshen up a room during the summer months, but pink is still having a design moment. So if you’re thinking about adding some soft colour to your home, check out our edit of the best grown-up pink paint shades on page 138 – no Barbie tones allowed! If a pool in your garden isn’t a viable option, then a refreshing, luxury new shower might be a good alternative.…

HOT TROPICS A hot and heavy ode to Cuba jostles with Nantucket-inspired beachside chic at Graham and Green this season, making its new collection a tale of two islands and every bit as divisive as choosing your summer holiday destination. We’re leaning towards the multicoloured hues of Havana’s architecture mirrored on vibrant hand-woven wool rugs and upholstered chairs. As for the Caribbean wildlife? Check out the framed butterfly and beetle prints inspired by the intricate work of Swedish photographer Goran Liljeberg. Insects with impact. SITTING PRETTY Think of Patricia Urquiola’s Garden Layers as a collection that fuses the designer’s uniquely colourful Spanish eye with the Indian tradition of kicking back and relaxing on the floor. Designed for textile brand Gan and dropping at Woven just in time for summer, its 15 outdoor rugs…

Say aloha! to smoking volcanoes and sunset hues with the season’s biggest and brashest trend. Leading the tropical troupe, models at Tsumori Chisato rocked head-to-toe kaleidoscopic colours, while Paul Smith remixed the Hawaiian shirt for its spring/summer collection. Homes are about to explode too – just check out Seletti’s Volcano armchair for a four-legged vision of Polynesian perfection. Up for a holiday romance? Look no further than Jan Constantine’s appliqued Love Birds cushion – the perfect match for Rosanna Lonsdale’s pineapple-stamped Aloha lamp. And with all that tropical goodness, you’ll be wearing your summer holiday on your sleeve (or sofa). It’s going to be a long, hot summer……

Pared back needn’t mean Plain Jane and this season’s go-to neutral shades are sophisticated canvas colours. evolving from sleek and streamlined at swiss fashion house akris to safari-feel at Loewe, we spotted a smothering of earthy jutes, linens and hemps sauntering their way down the spring/summer catwalk. wiping the slate clean in the home, Perch & Parrow’s Brooks pouffe has sit-on-and-sink away factor by the bucketload, closely rivalled by emu’s indoor/outdoor Terramare garden chair. Love the look and want to rock it underfoot? Lace up with converse’s canvascovered chuck Taylors for a minimal but mighty style statement.…

on-trend swimming pool blue

In our fast-paced, switched-on world, swimming pool blue invites us to slow down and – dare we say it – switch off. Its soothing qualities are exactly why it works wonderfully at home. The shade creates a serene oasis that evokes wide-open expanses of crystal clear water and cloudless skies, enhancing the sense of space. Given its strong ties with water, swimming pool blue is perfect for a seaside-inspired look. ‘Go for a tonal palette – from pale and watery to deep and strong – then add white for crispness and bring in natural elements like different woods,’ advises Judy Smith, Crown’s colour consultant. If you’re feeling a shade braver, splash swimming pool blue across walls, woodwork and even furniture for a super-strong statement. Throw transparent materials into the mix – glass…
