Whether you’re reading this on the beach (and if you are, you’ll probably want to turn to p112 for our 2016 horoscope special), or heading back to the office (the workwear edit on p80 will make your first day back a breeze – sartorially speaking, at least), there’s something for everyone in this January/February issue. Read our astounding interview with North Korean defector Yeonmi Park – she escaped the dictator state only to be trapped in a sex trafficking ring in China. Ultimately hers is a story of triumph, which she tells us on p44. And if you want to know what we’ll be eating, watching and wearing in the year ahead, our trend report on p34 makes for intriguing reading – plus we have the scoop on the future…

prints aplenty

1 RULE Update a printed dress by wearing a solid-coloured belt to break the pattern and cinch in the waist. 2 RULE Pairing anything bold with a neutral piece, like a plain black blouse, is a flattering way to pull off bright colours and unusual prints. 3 RULE When your outfit is jam-packed with eye candy, keep the rest plain. This means minimal accessories – think a basic clutch or simple earrings. 4 RULE When wearing a seriously striking, bold geometric print, consider a simply shaped garment, a shift dress or A-line skirt. Balance is key.…

FUNG I am inspired by refreshing aquamarine this issue – especially the infinite number of the ocean’s blue hues. The sea may not be a new source of inspiration but designers and make-up artists also turned to the shade of the season in totally unexpected ways for their SS15 presentations. I dove right in and got testing. Blue eyeshadow was perhaps a scary sign of the 80s but bring it back sans the shimmer. For a more real than retro approach, do a solid pastel wash across the lids as seen at Emanuel Ungaro, or work several shades of blue – from turquoise to electric – in and around the eye like Elie Saab. Holly Fulton did the most wearable and easy-to-achieve take on the trend with a defined waterline that…

skin reboot

RESTORE MOISTURE AND GLOW When your skin isn’t looking its best, how often do you think dehydration is the culprit? Probably not often enough, but dehydration affects all skin types and causes it to lose plumpness, while also preventing moisture retention and hindering the absorption of products. With the correct products, you can restore the moisture balance. Cosmetologist Tatiana Shuvalova from Ericson Laboratoire Institute South Africa says fresh organic caviar, for example, is one ingredient to look out for. ‘It’s particularly beneficial for sensitive skin types that should avoid more intensive treatments like chemical peels or laser treatments,’ Tatiana says. Another brightening ingredient is vitamin C. ‘It’s a potent antioxidant that’s especially brightening on tired and dull skin. It also helps to treat hyperpigmentation and sun damage.’ TREATMENT TO TRY THE RADIANCE…
