That’s been the question on everyone’s lips for the past three years, and this issue we take a step closer to finding out. On p32 we go hands-on with Predator: Hunting Grounds, on p40 we play the remade MediEvil, and on p58 we reveal how Nioh 2 – Sony’s answer to Sekiro – plays. All of this and on p10 we talk about…

01 developing next year’s hottest new property

“NIGHT CITY IS ENORMOUS. BUT WE ALSO VALUE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY, I HAVE TO BE HONEST ABOUT THAT.” While you create your own character to be the hero of your journey in Cyberpunk 2077, Night City itself is the true star of the game. “The city is really the core of Cyberpunk 2077. We approached it very holistically; we started with very big ideas of the city and then went into detail and detail and detail and detail,” Marthe Jonkers, senior concept artist and co-ordinator of the concept team, says. “We have an urban planner in the team, for instance, which really helps us with the map and the layout to make the city feel very realistic.” “We now have this option of vertical exploration that we didn’t really have in The…

02 getting out the big guns (and swords)

“MESHES RPG COMBAT WITH HACK-AND-SLASH.” There was something about PS1’s low-poly graphics that burned in our minds like pure imagination fuel. The world of Final Fantasy VII was certainly pretty for its time, but its massive popularity was owed to more than that – we loved it for what it sparked inside us. The terrific thing about Final Fantasy VII Remake is that somehow it pulls that splendour right out of our heads, and makes a game around it. It’s important to remember that this is a remake, not a remaster – in fact, you could go further and call this an interpretation. One crucial element that’s changed significantly is the combat. The Final Fantasy devs have been experimenting with real-time fights for a while, but never has it been done more…

03 classics get the cover treatment

“LIMITED-EDITION SLEEVES FEATURING GLORIOUS NEW ARTWORK.” You see it with movies all the time – Blu-ray reissues of a series of films with special covers. There’s something undeniably special about these ten first-party games that have graced PlayStation over the years. While there’s much to love about PS4 on a technical level, what really defines the console is the games played on it. Currently available at Game, the Only On PlayStation collection celebrates the experiences unique to the platform with collectable limited-edition sleeves, featuring glorious brand-new artwork for each title. The games that make up the collection so far are: Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last Of Us: Remastered, Horizon:…

04 ghost recon’s 4v4 mode is on point

“A TENSE GAME OF CAT-AND-MOUSE PLAYED OUT ACROSS A LARGE-ISH OPEN WORLD MAP.” A slow-burning deathmatch probably isn’t on many shooter fans’ must-have lists. Play one, though, and then it’s all you can think about. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint’s newly revealed 4v4 Ghost War mode is a tense game of cat-and-mouse played out across a large-ish open world map. It’s the perfect complement to the game’s promised level of realism. As in the main game, if you get shot or suffer damage from a bad fall, your health won’t sap back up if you hide behind a rock for a couple of seconds. You need to take time to bandage your wounds, and that’s time you may not have when under fire, unless other members of your team offer some covering fire. The survival…
