a purpose-filled life

As I sit in my home contemplating what to write in this month’s editor’s letter, I assess what has transpired in the last nine months. I would like to compare it to a roller-coaster ride but with no end in sight. Some days have been akin to winning the lottery, some days I can’t even get myself out of bed. To get over that hump I needed to continually remind myself to live with a purpose, that there is a rationale behind all the occurrences and craziness of it all. That this too shall pass. WIG TYSMANS Legendary photographer, Wig Tysmans has engaged in a creative conversation with artists, musicians and friends over the last 40 years, resulting in a series of nudes that capture the spirit of their collaboration. rome to home

It would have been a grand wedding in Rome but fate, or Covid-19, got in the way. Instead Charles Tiu and Sarah “Sari” Lazaro got married in a much more intimate affair in Tagaytay. The ceremony, held in July 23 at the Madre de Dios Church in Tagaytay Midlands, was however not any less special for the couple. They met on a night out in Poblacion, Makati. Tiu proposed to Lazaro on November 23, 2019 in El Nido, Palawan. And now, their plans for their Roman wedding had to be altered for a very good reason. “We really wanted to start our married life together already,” the bride shares. “We could not wait to live together because we had promised to wait to do this until after marriage.” The couple described their…

gilded heritage

“Pieces of gold, the size of walnuts and eggs, are found by sifting the earth in the island of that king who came to our ships,” chronicled the explorer, Antonio Pigafetta, about Raja Siagu upon the Spaniards’ arrival in Butuan during the Magellan expedition. “All the dishes of that king are of gold and also some portions of his house as we were told by that king himself. He had a covering of silk on his head, and wore two large golden earrings fastened in his ears ... At his side hung a dagger, the haft of which was somewhat long and all of gold, and its scabbard of carved wood. He had three spots of gold on every tooth, and his teeth appeared as if bound with gold.” One can…
