welcome to the september edition of scootering!

As I write this, the dates for the BSRA 2021 rally season have just been released. Normally this isn't something we would do until the last meeting of the year, and that used to be at Brid, but as most of you are aware, Brid is long gone and Southport is now the BSRA destination of choice for the end-of-season rally. This early release of the 2021 dates is a very welcome sight on the horizon . I've never before looked forward to a new rally season before the old one is over. Usually there is too much going on in the present year, to even think about what is happening next year, but in this case ... I know the entire scooter community will be praying that 2021 can…

kick start

JUMP THE GUN REFIT After almost 28 years in business, Jump The Gun thought it was time for a lick of paint... something a little more in keeping with those early '60s gents' outfitters. Sharp suits, limited edition knits and jackets among a whole wardrobe of other stuff. So what do people think? Well they've had a great reaction from all who have visited so far, some saying: "It feels more like a '60s clothing shop for grown-ups!" www.jumpthegun.co.uk COOL LID AGV's Sportmodular has been Stan's choice of helmet for some time now and this year he's been taking the 'Ray Carbon' scheme for a spin. Moulded from carbon fibre, the Sportmodular weighs in at only 1295g but offers 190-degree vision and excellent impact protection while combining the performance of a full face with…

This information is provided by Stephen Hattersley, of WildWood Legal, a firm of solicitors specialising in claims for injured scooterists. Stephen, a qualified solicitor for 25 years, has been riding scooters for more than 30 years, and has acted for injured riders across the UK. He knows the tricks and pitfalls that insurers use and pulls no punches in his dealings with them. He rides to work every day and understands the challenges you face out there. Q. I was with some friends on our scooters riding down to Lyon in France. A French driver pulled out of a side road and knocked me off, wrecking my scooter (and my leg). How do I go about getting damages from him - do I need to use French solicitors? A. Sorry to hear…

priceless possessions

The debate over the rise in prices of scooters continues to rage, every year they seem to get higher, and just when you think they may start to dip a new record price gets paid. We can all hear the stories of an SX200 being bought for just a few pounds ' back in the day', sometimes even given away for nothing. That was then but this is now, we don't have machines to travel back in time so prices paid now have to be accepted. With the current situation, some owners may have been forced to sell their pride and joy, due to loss of income. Harsh though that may be, many think this may have an impact on prices, perhaps pushing them down. After all, the price something…

the golden years and the salad days?

How many times have you heard the phrase 'back in the day'? Other variations include the glory days, the golden years, or even the salad days. I checked out the meaning of salad days as a phrase and it is actually quite apt for many of us, I think ... 'Salad days is a Shakespearean idiomatic expression meaning a youthful time, accompanied by the inexperience, enthusiasm, idealism, innocence, or indiscretion that one associates with a young person.' Certainly, for many of us, that's quite apt as we started riding and playing with scooters in our teens. Looking back it was certainly a time of innocence, although we probably didn't think it at the time! We were full of enthusiasm, riding off to rallies free of the aches and pains that we…

dear boss...

Unfortunately, during the initial development of the project he had always promised himself, Mick endured some extremely difficult personal circumstances. "I'd acquired the frame and 4 the engine and started the build; I was self-employed at the time and money wasn't exactly free flowing, but I wasn't in a rush. Two years later my first daughter, Ashleigh, was born and money became even tighter. Unfortunately, when she was born, due to complications at birth she was brain damaged, which of course led to me abandoning the project and selling it on." In 1988 at Scarborough Mick saw the Lambretta chopper 'Nightmare'. "Again, like Jack's Back, the scooter caught my . I was re-inspired, but I ill lacked the money and, at that point, the motivation. “During that time many years…
