can i ask a favour…

I can vividly remember the day, as a lanky 19 year old, I went into WH Smith in Leeds and bought Scootering’s first edition. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that one day I’d be its editor but here I am and I find myself asking, where do we go from here? To help me with that question I’ve a favour to ask. When I compare this edition to the first, it’s clear that the magazine’s come a long way. It’s certainly a far more polished product than at any time in its history. Perhaps a little too polished? One of the things I loved about those early efforts were the contributions made by readers and I’m keen to bring that back. I’m just not entirely sure how we…

next month

Christmas is coming and Scootering Santa’s got a very full sack. To tide you over the festive season our December edition opens with a stunning Sprint that more than lives up to its name, there’s a Quadrophenia replica that Jimmy wouldn’t be seen dead riding and we’ll be celebrating the Series 3 Li’s 60th birthday. If that wasn’t enough, we’ll be revealing our plan for next year’s project scoot and of course bringing you all that’s best in news, reviews, rally reports and so much more. Why settle for socks and some toffee when you could ask Santa to slip a Scootering subscription inside your Christmas stocking?…

salty bitch

“Achieving 100.42mph was a fairy-tale ending but I know The Bitch can give more” For lovers of speed the Bonneville Salt Flats in America’s north-western Utah are hallowed ground. It’s here that Todd, who hails from Orange County, California, is determined to squeeze the most out of his Lambretta, Bitches Brew. As he explained to Scootering, life on the flats isn’t always easy. “Tuning and environment are a bitch here due to the high elevation,” he said. “There can also be drastic changes in both weather and barometric pressure while waiting in line to run means that settings need to be constantly changed. “On the day I couldn’t get her to run right – even after five attempts I was still getting really bad numbers. On the sixth attempt I didn’t even…

pete meads: a lambretta legend passes

“His death is a sad loss to the scootering world and he will be greatly missed by all that knew him.” Pete was an avid scooter enthusiast from his early days, but he will forever be associated with the Lambretta marque. An active member of the Luton Lambretta Club, he regularly attended rallies from the late 1950s onwards. Playing both an active role within his local club and being a prominent member of the BLOA it was a logical step for him to join the BLOA committee, which he did in 1960. Such was his standing in the organisation that he would go on to be the BLOA’s chairman for several years. He was a driving force in helping BLOA grow and played a major part in organising the European rallies which…

ladies x kevlar jeggings by rst

When riding jeggings were first introduced, I was keen to get a pair and spent many frustrating visits to various shops struggling to find some that fitted well and I could pull on without resorting to the ‘wriggle from side to side, jump up and down’ performance. So it’s fair to say that I was more than pleasantly surprised when I put RST’s x Kevlar jeggings on for the first time. Referring to the size guide, I had ordered a 16 (44), which is what I take in high street clothes. I undid the button and zip, put one leg in, then the other, pulled them on and did up them up. Just like that – no drama, no swearing, no shoving things into place, just a nice, comfortable fit. At…
