THREE YEARS AGO, I was invited to a summer wedding in Tuscany. For reasons that seem utterly trivial now, I wasn’t able to go, but the rest of my family flew over for the occasion. The groom was my brother’s childhood friend and so my brother was the best man. My mother and sister were the entourage. I was properly envious. In the middle of that particularly cold July – as I remember it – I ate endless bowls of soup in front of the gas heater and watched as their Instagram feeds filled up with Tuscan hills and antipasti, tables of laughing guests clinking Prosecco glasses at dusk. I drank red wine and whined to whoever would listen. Missing a real-life wedding under the Tuscan sun was bad enough, but then…
