SURE, she lives a fabulous life and enjoys plenty of perks in her role as a royal. But in many ways I feel sorry for Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and arguably the world’s most famous pregnant woman. She’s had her entire life change so dramatically that when she enjoys special moments with her closest friends – in this case a baby shower with seriously A-list pals – it causes a stir.I can’t imagine not being able to do something so personal with the people I care about simply to follow protocol. I guess Meghan decided she couldn’t either because that was a party and a half by any measure. Yet many of the people in royal circles say she’s on a path that could end in heartache (page 8). She…

KEEP THE MINDERS IN MIND AS A young family we enjoy going out for dinner at family-friendly restaurants. In light of the recent Dros tragedy (YOU, 11 October) we always ensure we’re seated close to the play area. But we’ve grown to love and trust childminders at our favourite eating places. We know them by name and in turn they know my daughter’s name and absolutely love her. What saddens me is how many parents take their children to the play area, enjoy a peaceful dinner then leave. You should take into account that in order to enjoy your “quiet” meal you’ve entrusted the childminder with the task of watching your children. So before you leave, have the courtesy to thank them or, better yet, teach your children to…

OH NO, CÉLINE! I nearly died of shock when I saw those pictures of Céline Dion (YOU, 14 February). She looks 90 at least. She was so beautiful when she was with René. He must be turning in his grave to see what she’s done to herself now. IRENE, CAPE TOWN ■ What on earth is Céline Dion trying to prove? She looks awful. DENISE, PIETERMARITZBURG CLARIFICATION ON ADOPTION I’m the spokesperson for the Western Cape provincial minister of social development, Albert Fritz. I’m responding to the article you recently published on adoption (YOU, 28 February).I note that you cited section 250 as the law that could be amended, making adoptions impossible. Please note that this isn’t the case. The amended laws that will impact on adoptions are…

We tend to catastrophise! When the robots aren’t working many of us throw our hands in the air and say the whole country is falling apart!Fuming or getting depressed about the blackouts won’t solve the problem (YOU, 28 February). It would be better to see if we can adapt to the situation.Millions of people in this great land and around the world never have electricity at home. In fact, a lot of them don’t even have homes. Throughout history everyone lived without electricity. Even the all-powerful kings of old never enjoyed this incredible discovery. Yet we take it for granted until it fails for a few hours. In spite of this and other challenges most of us enjoy a higher standard of living than the average citizen in almost any…
