I’VE been at YOU on and off for the better party of 17 years so it’s practically steeped in my DNA, which makes it an honour and a privilege to stand in for Charlene while she’s on her well-deserved sabbatical. And it’s been quite a week to take over. Harry and Meghan touched down on South African soil on the day we were putting the magazine to bed and initially we decided we’d wait until the following week and do a full Southern African tour extravaganza. But then the pictures started to arrive and we decided we just couldn’t wait – Meghan was looking so lovely, Harry is such a natural people person, everyone looked so happy to see them and vice versa. But that doesn’t mean we won’t do that extravaganza next…

don’t let jenna’s death be in vain

I’VE just reached the end of the book Get Me to 21 written by Gabi Lowe about her beautiful daughter Jenna (YOU, 22 August). It was so overwhelming and forceful that I found myself right in the middle of Gabi, Stuart and Kristi’s world, and that of their wonderful family. They and the amazing medical staff in South Africa, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom were right behind Jenna through her final months during which she so strongly fought to live. Reading this heartbreaking book has made me realise just how many organ donors are needed in our country. There are so many sick children and adults just wanting to live a normal life. Please become a donor so that Jenna’s journey wasn’t in vain. I salute you, Gabi, for writing this heartrending…

14 KIDS IS JUST TOO MANY I grew up in a family of four children raised by a hardworking single mother. Luxuries were unheard of but there was always plenty of love to go around. But I vowed my kids would never be latchkey children so I opted to be a stay-at-home mom for as long as possible. With only one income, money was tight but we always had food on the table and clothes on our backs. After 15 years the cost of living necessitated that I go out to work but the children were teenagers by then. It was still necessary to adhere to a budget, and luxuries were few but love was plentiful. Our two children were well-fed and clothed and we enjoyed at least one annual holiday. It’s therefore totally…

katie flies solo

Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes looked so amazing together I used to hail them as a match made in heaven. It’s sad to read we’ll no longer see them walking hand in hand (YOU, 12 September). The end of relationships often leave people heartbroken but Katie seems to have seen it coming. I hope she isn’t just putting on a brave face while in fact she’s cracking inside, because if she really loved her man she’d take some time to get over him. But whatever Katie is going through psychologically and emotionally, she seems to be handling it well. Jamie, not being a one-woman man, should learn that infidelity isn’t on. I wish Katie a good romantic and social life going forward. She’s my inspiration. ABIGAIL LEDUBUKO, EMAIL What does Katie Holmes think she’s doing?…
