The idea first sprang from the fertile mind of car design supremo Chris Bangle – why do yachts have to be symmetrical? He had been commissioned by Sanlorenzo to do a blue-sky study on the yard’s next generation of yachts, and came up with this: an off-center superstructure, offering best-in-class views from huge panoramic windows and more space in the yacht’s main living areas. The idea was then “yachtified” by design studio Zuccon, and the result is presented in this issue for the first time – the SL102, one of the world’s first asymmetric superyachts.
