It never fails to make for a good picture: a giant yacht making its way through the quaint, low-lying Dutch countryside. This time, the featured boat is Feadship’s 236ft Project Galina. After its technical launch and short transfer, it arrived at Feadship’s Kaag facility where it will be outfitted for an early 2021 delivery. For now, Galina is a bit of an enigma, with even the design team remaining under wraps. Germany has built some of the world’s most iconic superyachts over the years. Many such giants of the seas, built in the 1930s, are still going strong, including 359ft Sea Cloud (built by Krupp Germaniawerft) and 446ft Savarona (built by Blohm+Voss, now part of Lürssen). The average size (and complexity) of yachts has continued to grow in the past decade with the construction at Lürssen of the world’s two largest superyachts, 592ft Azzam (by length) and 512ft Dilbar (by volume).
