Merry Christmas Cozy. Calm. Comfort. Those are the words that come to mind when thinking of farmhouse style. And those also seem to be the things we are craving as we enter this holiday season. On these pages you’ll find homes, crafts, and ideas to inspire your decor to embrace those authentic qualities. Our featured holiday homes have owners who deck their halls with greens and trees both faux and real (even cut from their own backyard), ornaments vintage and new, and stockings in a matched set or beautifully varied. No matter the farmhouse decorating approach, each embodies Christmas joy. We hope you’ll find cheer in our wreaths (page 84), floral centerpieces (page 36), and handmade gift wrap (page 54)—all crafts you can make to bring farmhouse-style cozy, calm, and comfort…

the gift of cheer

“CHRISTMAS IS MY FAVORITE. I LOOK FORWARD TO IT STARTING in February,” homeowner Caroline Bivens says. “I love coming up with something new every year.” For Caroline, creativity is the ultimate holiday theme—with fun as a close second. Not only does she find new ways to fill her family’s home with holiday spirit, she and husband Aaron take pride in making each season special and memorable for their four children—like last year’s Christmas morning scavenger hunt that revealed a family trip to Disney. “One of my annual favorites: We put the kids to bed,” Caroline says with a grin, “but about 10 minutes later Aaron and I start playing Christmas music really loud and dancing around until they come out of their rooms. I’ll have hot chocolate and blankets ready, and…

MINIMALISM HAS ITS TIME AND PLACE, BUT THAT TIME AND PLACE IS definitely not Jenny Zacharewicz’s house at Christmastime. “There are nine reasons why I’m not one of those people who can go basic,” Jenny says of her house at Christmas. “I want every single space filled.” And those nine reasons? Their names are Allie, Emily, Sophie, Josh, Noah, Matthew, Jacob, Caleb, and Benjamin. Jenny’s holiday goals are eyes dancing with wonder and full hearts, ages 4–27. “When I’m thinking about decorations for Christmas, I ask myself, What would my family love? What’s going to make them feel warm and cozy?” Those same questions are the motivation behind the slow renovation of their Dallas, Georgia, home. Bit by bit, she and her husband, Chris, have shifted the architecture from coastal modern to…
