merry christmas

We’re all perfectly imperfect. And that’s what farmhouse style embraces. Whether taking form as an antique that has been loved for centuries or a new item that looks old, farmhouse style represents comfort, calm, and authenticity. And what better time of the year to celebrate our farmhouse love than during the holidays? Turn these pages and you’ll meet wonderful homeowners who have graciously opened their doors to us for your enjoyment. You’ll also find Christmas wreaths (page 34), outdoor decor (page 58), and the cutest gingerbread cookies you’ve ever seen (page 42). Get inspired by Matthew Mead’s interpretation of farmhouse Christmas decor (page 4); he’s a regular contributor to our sister publication, Country Home. Pour a cup of something warm, and sit back and enjoy a few minutes of Christmas…

AS A KID, HOLLY BLAIN WAS BEYOND BORED tagging along with her mom to flea markets and thrift stores. “I sat in the car waiting for her—I wouldn’t even go inside,” Holly says. “She would come out with something I thought was silly at the time.” But as with so many things we grow to appreciate with age, mom’s penchant for tracking down treasures amid trash eventually passed down to daughter. These days, the duo enjoy outings to barn sales and thrift shops to pick up this or that for their homes. “She has a better eye than I do,” Holly says of her mom. “She will grab something that I think is just all right, but once she styles it, I’m like, ‘Why didn’t I buy that?’ ” Where Holly…
