editor’s note

The fact is, with smartphones and tablets packing more power than our desktop PCs back in the day, the tools for doing so are a lot more accessible in today’s world. Once upon a time, we would recreate scenes from our favourite movies with makeshift props. Now we have readily available recording tools (i.e a phone) and the magic of video editing tools or even mobile apps to for example, turn a stick into a lightsaber (check this app out). Exploring filmmaking can be a wonderful exercise in letting their creativity flow, as well as…

The Return of Clone Wars It was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con that the popular series would return for a 12 episode run on Disney’s upcoming streaming service. Clone Wars was an animated series set between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, following Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the intergalactic conflict. Season 7 will air sometime in 2019. Hacking is Child’s Play A competition organised by R00tz Asylum aims to show that American voting systems are so insecure that a child could learn to hack its infrastructure with only a few minutes of coaching. Obviously, they’re not hacking the real deal, as that is illegal, but 13 replica sites. In one day 35 out of 39 kids aged between 8 and 17 managed to bypass the security. The chaos…

the future of entertainment?

The term ‘cutting edge’ seems to be bandied around a tad too much these days, and seems to have become a little diluted because of it. We look at what are actually quite innocuous things and wax lyrical about how they are going to change our world. Usually, they don’t to any perceivable amount, and we move on to the next good thing to come along. But then along comes something that is truly ground breaking and creates a real change in perception. Examples from the last 100 years include the personal computer (and by analogy, smartphones), digital storage (including CD’s and flash drives), sliced bread and post-it notes, and now we have the potential for something new in visual entertainment with the Intel True View system. Essentially a multi-port recording facility,…

Being a drama king or queen shouldn’t be something we say to our kids when they start being over dramatic because you gave them a pink bowl for their cereal when they really wanted a blue. Encouraging them to get into drama can actually offer them so much more. Of course, not everyone wants the kind of attention that drama classes and schools bring. There are those budding stars who love it when you tell them to pose for a picture or take any opportunity to perform their favourite part of the latest Disney film over and over and over and over again… But not everyone and certainly not all kids are extroverts. However, drama can be, and is, for everyone. Just like in a play, there is a role which suits…
