village & pillage: the latest updates

BEDROCK UPDATE You might have noticed that some of the Village & Pillage features have already hit the Bedrock Edition! If your version of the game is 1.8.0, here’s a quick rundown of the new features you can expect to see: BAMBOO has been added, but doesn’t yet spawn naturally – it can be caught while fishing in jungles or accessed in Creative mode, or in certain treasure chests. SCAFFOLDING can be crafted using bamboo. CROSSBOWS have been added with their three enchantments (Quick Charge, Multishot and Piercing), but can only be obtained if the “Experimental Gameplay” setting has been turned on in the options. NEW DYES have been added, and white, blue, brown and black dye can now be crafted from bonemeal, lapis lazuli, cocoa beans and ink sacs respectively. Unlike in the Java…

village & pillage questions answered

When will it be out? Some of it’s already out! If you’re playing the Bedrock Edition or the Legacy Console Edition on PS4, you can see some features in the game. Just update to the latest version, and you’ll see pandas, cats, bamboo and more. As for the rest of the features, they’ll be released on the Java Edition in early 2019 and in a future update to the Bedrock Edition soon after that. What versions will it be applied to? The Village & Pillage update will definitely come to the Bedrock Edition (Windows 10, some consoles such as the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch) and the Java Edition, aka the PC edition. It will also come to the Legacy Console Edition on PS4 only. However, if you’re playing the Xbox 360, PS3, PS Vita…

building your defences

WALLS Obviously, the best thing you can do to keep out mobs is build a wall. Make it high – at least three blocks – and ensure there are torches everywhere to keep the inside lit. This will stop mobs spawning inside the safe area, and they won’t be able to fire arrows or other weapons over. Even endermen won’t be able to peer in if the walls are high enough! RAMPARTS To make walls even more useful, build ramparts on the top. Make a walkway around the inside of the wall’s top level, then place a fence or stone wall around the outside. This will allow you to fire arrows at mobs below, but give you plenty of protection if they decide to return fire. MOATS A moat will slow down most aggressive mobs,…

staying safe at night

SLEEP The BEST way to stay safe at night is to sleep through it! All you need to sleep is a bed, which you can craft out of three wood planks and three blocks of wool. When the bed is placed, you can sleep in it safely as long as: It’s night time (or there’s a rainstorm) The room it’s in is well lit It’s completely sealed off from any areas of darkness (e.g. doors are closed) There are no mobs nearby! Going to sleep at any point in the night will mean you wake up at dawn. You do miss out on the chance to collect rare mob drops, but the important thing is you’ll emerge into safe daylight! LIGHTING If you do want to venture outdoors at night, you need to have good lighting around your base.…

it’s all change on the minecraft movie

Next issue, believe it or not, Minecraft World celebrates its 50th issue! We’re still a bit taken aback by this ourselves, but then with readers as awesome as ours, perhaps we shouldn’t be! However, one story that’s bubbled along throughout this time is the possibility of a movie based on our favourite videogame! The rights to make Minecraft into a feature film were snapped up back in 2014 by the Warner Bros studio. That’s the same company that makes the Harry Potter and LEGO films, no less. In fact, the producer of the assortment of LEGO films, Roy Lee, was quickly attached to help bring Minecraft to cinemas. Only it doesn’t look like he’s been having an awful lot of luck. THE STORY SO FAR The idea for the movie is that it…
