build the ultimate creeper-proof base

REINFORCED WALLS Creepers can blast their way through walls like they were made of polystyrene, and almost nothing can stop them – except, of course, obsidian. The only truly blast-proof block in the game (that you can collect without cheating!) is made by putting running water on top of lava blocks, and it can withstand a direct blast from a creeper without a scratch on it. Unfortunately, building your walls out of obsidian makes them look ugly and weird. To get around this, build a reinforced wall instead. To do this, build your base the size and shape you want, then create an obsidian shell around it. Now surround the shell with a block of your choice, and you’ll have creeper-proof walls without the unpleasant obsidian visuals! CREEPER-PROOF WINDOWS Note that you CAN place a…

minecraft: education edition-secret features and blocks

WHAT’S THE EDUCATION EDITION? Developed for use in classrooms, the Education Edition is technically a separate version of Minecraft – however, hidden within your Bedrock Edition options, you can enable these features on a per-world basis. To activate them, when you create a new world you have to scroll down into the settings to the “cheats” section. Enable cheats, and directly below it you should see the option “Education Edition”. Enable that too, then scroll back up and create your world as normal! You’ll arrive in the Overworld as expected, but you’ll now have access to new features and blocks! The Education Edition can be obtained by schools as a stand alone piece of software with even more features, including lesson plans and teacher interactions. The features we’re looking at here are available…

the end survival kit

FULL SUIT OF DIAMOND ARMOUR (AT LEAST!) At this point in the game, a full suit of diamond armour should be your minimum requirement for any major adventure. Can you make it Netherite? Even better. Protection enchantments are useful generally, but anything that can reduce fall damage – Feather Falling on the boots, for instance – will help a lot when you end up levitated by shulkers. PUMPKIN Now before you scoff, remember – wearing a pumpkin on your head is the only thing that can stop your gaze provoking endermen. If you need respite to build or mine and don’t want a fight, put on a pumpkin and the endermen will leave you alone. DIAMOND SWORD & PICKAXE Again, the minimum you should take with you is a diamond sword and pickaxe, but Netherite…

RELEASE IMMINENT! The good news for everyone waiting for the Caves & Cliffs update is that the release is coming very soon – maybe even before the next issue is on shelves! That’s because the developers have split the update into two chunks, with the second half to be released later this year. So what will you get in update one, and what’s going to come out later? PHASE ONE (VERSION 1.17) The first iteration is going to contain a lot of stuff you’ve already seen on these very pages – it’s always subject to change, but this is what we expect to see right now! New blocks and items coming in 1.17 include geodes, calcite and amethysts; underground plants like azaleas, moss blocks, cave vines and dripleaf; copper ore and copper blocks;…

ABOUT BOATS Boats are the main way players can transport themselves across water, although they can also carry a single passenger in addition to the main occupant. Available in all six colours of wood, boats are a crucial part of playing Minecraft – you probably won’t get far without them! Boats are just under one and a half blocks wide and half a block tall. They float upwards in water and stay on the surface, unless they encounter a magma block’s bubble column, which pulls them downwards. Boats have about four points of health, and can be destroyed by collisions and other dam age. CRAFTING ABOAT The crafting recipes for boats are completely made of wood. They’re unlocked as soon as you jump in water, and are the only wood recipes that don’t (currently)…
