It’s a funny thing, where you find your passion. My old man and brother are car nuts. They go to car shows, watch car shows and pride themselves on their ability to discern the make, model and year of a car as it glides past. While many builders are currently riding on the ascent of fortune’s wheel, it remains a tough business imbued with vivid memories of bleaker times. what’s in a name?

We’ve all seen lists of funny boat names. But none of those lists ever factor in what I’m about to propose. You see, when naming one’s boat, one must hope for the best but plan for the worst. Before sticking that vinyl on the transom, think about how it’s going to entertain the Coast Guard and everyone else listening on channel 16 if you find yourself hailing something dumb like, “Mayday, Mayday, this is … A Perfect Moment.” Therefore, each of the best/worst boat names below shall be issued a Mayday Score on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being the funniest or most embarrassing thing one could broadcast on the radio in one’s hour of need. The Orca LiddUp cooler is one of those things you didn’t even know you needed. Well, okay, you probably don’t need it, but it’s pretty cool. In fact, the Orca motto is “Make Every Moment Cool.” The cooler is a partnership between Orca, whose American-made coolers follow in the footsteps of brands like Yeti, and LiddUp, a brand that got its start on the show Shark Tank. We were impressed with the cooler’s functionality on summer cruises throughout the Northeast. It does everything expected of high-end coolers: keeps beverages cold all day, has extremely durable construction that lends itself to becoming an extra seat in the cockpit, and has a drainage spout. an electrifying upgrade

Seastar’s Optimus EPS electro-hydraulic system debuted in 2012 and utilizes drive-by-wire technology from the electronic helm unit to a pump control module mounted at the stern of the boat. Thin CANBus wires make the connection. The pump control module runs hydraulic pumps that connect to a hydraulic steering ram attached to each engine. This system eliminated long hydraulic runs and drastically simplified the installation of additional steering stations, but it still required rigging hydraulics from the pumps to the steering rams. Enter Dometic. The company purchased Seastar Solutions at the end of 2017 and re-branded it as Dometic Marine at the end of 2019.
