captain's log

There’s a bit of a British feel to this issue of Star Trek Magazine. Though the US edition of the publication in your hands bears the seemingly unremarkable number of #73, for British readers, it’s actually issue #200 – STM having launched in the UK over a decade before it did in the US (cor blimey guv, stone the crows, etc.). We’ve not made a massive deal of it so as not to baffle our American readers, but it’s worth noting in passing, I reckon, not least because 200 issues is a pretty impressive milestone for a genre TV tie-in mag, especially when so many others have fallen by the wayside. Testament, I feel, not only to the enduring appeal of Trek, but to all the editors and writers who’ve…

summer of trek

There was so much Star Trek news at this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con and Star Trek Las Vegas that it was hard to keep track of it all. Thankfully, Star Trek Magazine was on hand at both events to chronicle all the action and announcements! You can read our full reports of the Comic-Con Hall H panel on page 18 and Star Trek Las Vegas on page 74, but perhaps the biggest reveal was that the forthcoming Star Trek: Picard – which is set to debut early 2020 – will feature appearances by not only Patrick Stewart’s Star Trek: The Next Generation co-stars Brent Spiner (Data), Jonathan Frakes (Riker), Marina Sirtis (Troi), and Jonathan Del Arco (Hugh Borg), but also Star Trek: Voyager’s Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine). The Hall H…

The four-disc set comprises all 14 episodes of Season 2, along with over two hours worth of bonus material, plus the two Short Treks that tie in most closely to the season: “Runaway” – starring Tilly and Po – and “The Brightest Star,” which sheds light on Saru’s background. picard primer

With Star Trek: Picard almost upon us, CBS Home Entertainment has lined up a new six-disc Blu-ray set bringing together key Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes and all four TNG movies. Heralded as the perfect Jean-Luc Picard primer – much as Titan’s own Star Trek: Picard: The Classic Chronicles book (available now) takes the same approach in print – the Star Trek: Picard Movie & TV Collection presents the TNG two-parters “The Best of Both Worlds” and “Chain of Command” as feature length edits. Alongside these are the films Star Trek Generations, Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek Nemesis. The set boasts more than 10 hours of special features, including audio commentaries on each episode and film, making-of documentaries, actor and character profiles, roundtable discussions, and more.…

star trek holiday gift guide 2019

HALLMARK ORNAMENTS As ever, Hallmark has a fine selection of Keepsake Ornaments on offer, inspired by ships, characters, and scenes from across the Star Trek universe. From the original series comes a spectacular Transporter Tabletop Decoration, featuring Kirk, Spock, and Bones in the Enterprise transporter room, ready to beam down to a strange new world. A press of a button results in dialogue and sound effects from Star Trek, set to a synchronized light show, while a continuous light effect is available if the decoration is connected to the power adaptor. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Hallmark has a U.S.S. Enterprise (refit) Christmas tree ornament that lights up, while Star Trek: Discovery’s Commanders Burnham and Saru are the stars of another tree ornament that boasts dialogue from…
