Fave cross stitch project? I designed and stitched a retirement sampler for a former colleague and enjoyed almost every minute of it. It was so fun making something so personal to the recipient. Best compliment you’ve had? I would have to say it was probably from the old lady, Peggy – my mum used to work as a cleaner for elderly people and during school holidays I sometimes went with her to work. Peggy gave me my first cross stitch kit and inspired me to start stitching when I was around 6 years old. Without her encouragement I would be unlikely to still be stitching today. Recent WOXS design you love? I really liked the sweet spaniel puppy design from issue 281. He looks really friendly and cute and I can’t wait to make a…

Use metallic thread Henry VIII is one king who will never be forgotten, from his six wives to his reformation of the church, as well as his legendary appetite. Kareen’s regal portrait is the perfect project for someone who is fascinated by the colourful history of this Tudor monarch. Every detail of this magnificent stitch has been well thought out, from the lavish clothes and kingly accessories that Henry is wearing to the symbols of power that showcase his position as ruler of the country – the lion of England, fleur-de-lis and orb and cross. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a grand portrait without some sumptuous detailing, which is provided with the addition of gold metallic thread to enhance both the noble central figure and the border of beautiful Tudor roses. A…

Star Letter IN LOVING MEMORY On 18 October 2017 I bought The World of Cross Stitching issue 260 as the front cover captivated me – a pair of beautiful robins designed by Lisa Alderson. My mum and I used to enjoy stitching in winter, and we were always accompanied by robins who used to visit my mum’s garden. That day I bought the magazine, my mum was in hospital and unfortunately she passed away that very evening. You can imagine how precious this issue is to me! My friend Mary Joan suggested that I make a project in remembrance of my mum and what better project than these robins that reminded me so much of her! So finally here they are, stitched and ready. The next step will be a nice frame. This…
