Steve Brown, Web editor While at university, I spent a summer working in Venice. Although I initially turned bright pink in the scalding sun, four months later I returned to the UK with a brilliant tan (although it faded back to pale quickly). Sunshine, friends, alcohol and hot Italian men. I really couldn’t complain much Francisco Gomez de Villaboa, Photographer The most recent one! After three weeks of holidaying at Madrid Pride, on the Algarve and Andalucia’s coast, I decided to go to Santo Domingo for another nine days on my own. As if I hadn’t had enough already. Life is short Andy Goddard, Commercial manager Last year, I was given the chance to take my family to the British Overseas Territory of Turks & Caicos Islands for two weeks. We were the first ever…

I’m turning into my mother. When my big fat Greek Cypriot momma puts on a feast for our expansive family, she always makes sure she caters to everyone’s tastes. Even at Christmas, she’ll serve turkey with all the trimmings alongside kofte, a moussaka, salads, a side of lamb, gammon and a whole lot more besides. Never mind dessert: from cheesecake to trifle, via baklava. Nobody leaves her house hungry. And I always go home with a Tupperware filled with a selection of dishes that are often shared with my flatmate and friends. While I’m deficient in the kitchen, I’ve applied momma’s tactics to feasting to my approach to Attitude. Putting a new issue together is a lot more complex than you, our faithful readers, might imagine. It really is like putting together…

EDEN It looks as if butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth, but 22-year-old EDEN’s gloomy electronic pop reveals a heart of darkness. “I’m a fucking mess sometimes,” he brooded on his 2016 breakout song drugs. Then his debut album, Vertigo, released at the beginning of the year, showed off the Dubliner’s textural guitar skills. Managed by Scooter Braun, the svengali who shepherded Biebs and Ariana to stardom, EDEN — Jonathon Ng to his mum — is already headed towards music’s A list. Some 200,000 Insta fans can’t be wrong. iameden.eu VENICE SIMPLONORIENT-EXPRESS GRAND SUITES It takes some style to board the world’s most famous train, Belmond’s Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. But even here, in a sea of marquetry, white gloves and crystal, there are now degrees of excellence. The time-honoured cabins heavy on the murder-mystery vibe, with…

when is it time to forgive and forget?

When it comes to legal equality, life for (most) LGBT+ people in Britain has improved in recent years, but there’s still a long way to go until every lesbian, gay, bi and trans person can feel totally safe in their every-day lives. Recent Stonewall research found that 52 per cent of LGBT+ pupils hear homophobic remarks such as “faggot” or “lezza” frequently or often in school. The study also showed that 18 per cent of queer staff have been the target of negative comments or conduct from colleagues in the past year, simply because they identify as LGBT+. The old adage about sticks and stones is no longer considered a comforting piece of advice for a young person who is being verbally bullied — more and more people are becoming aware of…

For people who don’t follow The Great British Bake Off , you were runner-up a couple of years ago. What have you been up to since? It’s weird how quickly the time has flown by. Since finishing the show things have been pretty hectic, and as well as my day job as a doctor, I’ve continued to bake and write a fortnightly food column for The Guardian. I also worked with Channel 4 on Be Your Own Doctor, and the new show airs later this summer. How easy do you find the transition from doctor to TV presenter? When I first started filming the pilot (for Be Your Own Doctor), I found it a nightmare remembering what to say because I wasn’t used to anything scripted. God knows how actors remember entire plays.…
