the spice of life

South Africa's newest caravan has officially been revealed, and to say that it has the industry buzzing would be an understatement. I was at the launch of the Villa model by Okto Caravans, and was so excited to share it with our readers and online fans that I immediately posted pictures and video on our website and Facebook page. In less than a day, these posts were seen by tens of thousands of people, and the comments flooded in. And while I respect everyone's right to voice their opinion, I was a bit disappointed at all the negative comments. Some of the comments were not even about the caravan, but rather attacked the hard-working team behind the Villa. Others chimed in that the caravan looks to be of shoddy build quality... this from…

THE JEWEL OF THE BUSHVELD “You can get out of the bush, but the bush can’t get out of you!” The best decision we ever made was to become members of ATKV. For us as campers, we get everything that our hearts desire. As I was sitting in ATKV Eiland Spa, I had a sudden urge to write about the lush trees and picture-perfect mountains, the neat camping sites and friendly staff. My dream had finally become a reality, since for years I had wanted to park my home-on-wheels at this resort. During the busy month, the resort is packed to the brim with caravans and tents. There are even a few imported units like Dethleffs! We pitched our camp on stand 102 in the A block, surrounded by campers just like us – friendly…

FIRST FEMALE CARAVAN MANUFACTURER IN THE WORLD Hi guys, looking at the current caravan marketplace, I’m thinking of building my own caravan. There’s a really cool concept from overseas. Apparently it’s from the first female caravan manufacturer. I like the concept, and I’m particularly focused on a lightweight caravan which uses less fuel over long distances, and ultimately is more cost effective to produce. I think this little caravan could be refined ever so slightly. Inside it has a shower bathroom, kitchen (which I would put on the exterior) and a sleeping/ entertainment area. What I envisage is a cross between the X-camper, the Jurgens Gypsey Light Impi, and the Aloe Peri Peri. I’ve added some pictures of the UK model. Their website is www.go-barefoot.co.uk – what do you guys think? I know the first unit…

team effort

As soon as I arrived at the dealership, the excitement that had been building since the morning when I boarded a flight from Cape Town (and for months before, when the Okto team informed us of their plans to build a new caravan), grew even bigger. The dealership was decked out in the bold colours of Okto – big red and white banners, tables with red cloths, and the unmissable caravan in the front… hidden away beneath a big red cloth! Of course, there was a red carpet leading up to the unit as well. After a quick welcome from Woody Loftus, the guests and media were presented with a message from Keith Laing, one of the men at the head of Okto. Keith, who these days resides in Australia, could not attend…
