The new Jayco Silverline 2019 range of caravans will be the first in the world to offer consumers a voice-activated production RV. The range is kitted out with a personal virtual assistant — Amazon Alexa — which can assist owners with voice-command queries about weather and traffic as well as play your favourite song and change the TV channel. Silverline owners will be able to enjoy a wide range of Amazon Alexa voice commands including: “Alexa, turn on the air-conditioning” if you’re feeling too hot; "Alexa, buy this song" while listening to tunes in Amazon Music; "Alexa, what's my commute look like?" or "Alexa, what's traffic like?” to determine your trip’s travel time; or simply "Alexa, turn off the lights” when it’s time to head to bed. Meldrum is General Manager, Australian Operations, for Tourism Holdings Limited (THL) which operates the Britz, Maui and Mighty ranges of rental motorhomes, and the KEA motorhomes sold across Australia. The Awards recognise women who have achieved extraordinary success in their professional arenas and celebrate their invaluable contribution through leadership, innovation and courage to the travel industry. An Amendment Bill to delay the commencement date of the updated Road Vehicle Standards Bill (RVSA) was introduced into Parliament this July. Caravan Industry Association CEO Stuart Lamont’s response to the Amendment Bill was undeniably that of disappointment and frustration as the Association has lobbied hard for the introduction of the RVSA which was due to take effect on 10 December 2019. “Consumer safety is paramount and current protections are inadequate… While not perfect, RVMAP is a great step in the right direction for better consumer safety with strong evidence supporting this,” said Lamont. The peak national body back in 2013 launched a compliance inspection program called RVMAP represented by a distinctive key shaped badge affixed to each product supplied by participating manufacturers or importers. overseas campers on the rise

Increasing numbers of overseas visitors are choosing to camp or go caravanning in Australia, according to new figures from Tourism Research Australia. The data reveals 377,000 international visitors chose to see Australia’s great outdoors in the year ending March 2019, a 7 per cent jump from the previous year. The millennial market, led by working holiday makers and backpackers, continues to be the strongest age demographic with 157,000 international visitors aged 20 to 29 choosing caravanning and camping while in Australia. Following that was 127,000 international visitors in the 30 to 54-year-old age group, then 73,000 visitors aged 55+. Queensland was the most popular state amongst international visitors, with 132,000 visitors spending 1.6 million nights in the sunshine state. volkswagen releases first look at california campervan

The first details and sketches of VW’s updated VW California 6.1 have been released. A factory-built campervan, it is based on the latest iteration of the brand’s T6 van platform and will be formally unveiled at the Caravan-Salon expo in Dusseldorf, Germany from August 31. The company says this California ups the ante in terms of technology and connectivity, with optional digital instrumentation — or ‘digital cockpit’ — and online infotainment system. The ‘multifunction camper control unit’ in the roof console has also been digitised. The living and sleeping quarters have been given a revamp and safety is enhanced thanks to Volkswagen’s Side Protection (side monitoring), Lane Assist (dynamic steering) and Trailer Assist features.
