happiness is homemade

Homemade hoop key “This is a must-stitch design! I especially love the sentiment and the fabulously contemporary palette of thread colours” Sarah Trevor, Editor Emma Congdon’s Designer Secrets Dainty details I chose the thread colours for the ‘homemade’ wording especially carefully. The burnt orange and orange thread shades (DMC 721 and 741) are very similar, so when they are placed side by side it creates a really striking effect. For extra detail I’ve added single ruby and red cross stitches (DMC 498 and 350) to the centre of each letter. Special gift This hoop would make a great birthday gift for a creative friend. One of the flowers stitched on its own would also make a lovely complementary gift tag or card to add after you’ve wrapped it up. If you want to try this, then…

midnight moggies

Meet the designer Vivienne is a graphic designer and illustrator by trade. Her love of cross stitch began in infant school and continued into adulthood, when she began designing charts after encouragement from an art teacher friend. Her moonlight cats first featured in Gold over 10 years ago and have remained popular with readers during this time. “Fans of Gold may remember a series of similar designs from many years ago. I hope this colourful design proves to be as popular as the others did!” Stitcher’s guide This design is worked on 28-count evenweave over two threads of the fabric in 33 shades of cotton. Cross stitch is worked in two strands of cotton. It’s an intricate project, but with easy stitches only it is suited to intermediate stitchers. How to stitch the design 1 Find…

Meet the designer Prolific designer Durene Jones creates cross stitch charts for a range of stitching magazines. Her work is well loved for its modern and colourful tone, but she is a versatile designer and can turn her hand to any theme or style. Before starting on her creative cross stitch career, Durene worked as a graphic designer. “It was such fun choosing the colours to use for each picture within this sampler. I wanted to keep to a limited selection that would reflect each season, and that would complement one another” Stitcher’s guide This design is worked on 28-count white evenweave over two threads of the fabric in 22 shades of cotton.
