ready, steady, stitch!

Welcome to this month’s designer challenge! This month we really got our designers thinking with quite a tricky challenge! We’ve asked them to come up with a tall, thin design to fit onto a giant peg – and their design must relate to the purpose you would use that peg for. As usual they were limited in the materials they could use – so we asked their creations be restricted to just seven stranded cotton colours. We loved their inventive solutions to this creative problem! If you’d like to take on our next challenge, turn to page 75 for details of the challenge for our June issue! THE CHALLENGE •14 count white aida fabric• Seven shades of stranded cotton (shown above)• Giant peg THE RULES •Decorate a large clothes peg• The design must be…

This month’s alphabet is sure to be an invaluable addition to every reader’s collection of charts, to keep on standby for all sorts of occasions. From birthdays to items of clothing – adding a stitched initial has never looked so pretty. The reverse out effect of the letters remaining unstitched gives a delicate feel to these versatile designs too. Each month we publish a new letter and number set based on a theme, designed for you to cut out and keep for when you need it Our flower alphabet letters were mounted in a card, flexi-hoop and in a bound wooden hoop. Each was stitched on 14 count white aida, and each letter is approximately 28 high x 28 wide. The design size for each letter is approximately 5x5cm (2x 2in), and…

stitching with jess

Hullo! We all have intrinsic ideas about what makes us happy, but when was the last time you put into words exactly what delights you? Not the big, obvious joys, but the small moments of pleasure. The floriology meaning behind this little beauty is ‘cheerfulness’, and it suits the plant fully. These colourful blooms often come up in late winter, punctuating cold and frosty landscapes with their determined and cheerful presence. This purposeful positivity is something we can use in our own lives. The more we focus on what is positive and cheerful, the less likely we are to feel overwhelmed by negativity, and the more grateful we…
