It's been hot lately hasn't it? And with the heat comes sometimes a desire to not spend evenings locked away in a movie room – amplifiers and projectors in particular can run warm! The answer, of course, is ice-cold drinks and picking movies that are short and sweet. Something like the brilliant new Predator prequel Prey (p94) springs to mind. And the summer also has its AV charms. Blockbuster movies from earlier in the year begin to arrive on disc, and the new season hardware roll-outs are in full swing. Connection upgrades for Chord Cable specialist Chord Company is retooling some of its connectors with a new plating technology dubbed ChorAlloy. The UK manufacturer says this 'multi-metal' system brings a 'significant upgrade' over its earlier silver plating, including reduced intermodulation effects at high frequencies, plus a tarnish-free finish. Your smart TV is getting smarter. Freeview Play has rolled out new content discovery tools, with a major update to its Explore Freeview channel, while Sky Glass has expanded voice search functionality. The former says a firmware update has improved navigation and access to the platform’s extensive on-demand library, from its Explore Freeview Play TV channel 100, on all Freeview Play TVs. The service currently offers over 40,000 hours of gratis on-demand content, in addition to its 70 SD channels, 15 HD channels, 30 radio stations and 10 resident catch-up players: BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, UKTV Play, CBS Catchup Channels UK, Legend, POP Player, BBC Sounds, and STV Player.
