welcome

Never in a million years did I think the world would be so different since the last issue. I know there’s a lot of anxiety, fear and uncertainty out there right now, but it’s important to remember there’s a lot of uplifting stories too, with so many people doing amazing things to help us all get through this. Putting this month’s mag together – from home – felt insignificant at times, compared to what was happening outside our front doors. But, the positive comments we’ve had from you all on social media show just how important craft is at a time like this. So, if you want to keep busy and get creative, we’re here for you! Try a new craft with our cute clay panda planter, upcycle an old pair of…

mollie makes gift

Coming up with new ways to use up my overflowing yarn stash is one of my favourite activities. Crochet, cross stitch, needlepoint and pom poms all make frequent appearances in my projects, and when I can combine them, it’s a win! I hadn’t used plastic canvas since I was young, but by using modern colours and a fun rainbow shape, I’ve given this craft medium a modern twist. Your rainbow kit uses simple backstitch to create a woven-style design, and the warm tones will add sunshine to your home. Tiny pom poms are the ideal finishing touch, and pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I hope this fun gift helps to brighten up your space! Sarah lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, with her husband and kids. She’s almost…

HOW TO MAKE A CLAY PANDA PLANTER MATERIALS Air dry clay (we used Das modelling clay) Bowl of water Soft sponge Glass jar Cling film Modelling tools Acrylic paint Paint brushes Sandpaper Varnish (we used Décopatch Sealing Varnish) Even if you weren’t obsessed with watching The Great Pottery Throw Down recently, ceramics is one of those crafts most of us would love to try our hand at. This panda planter is not only the cutest vase we’ve ever seen, it’s also a great introduction to the world of clay. No wheel? No problem. Get hold of some air dry clay from a local craft shop or online, and have fun with the making and decorating process. Our top tip? Remember that slip – clay smooshed down with lots of water – is your best…

HOW TO MAKE A PINAFORE DRESS MATERIALS Pair of full-length jeans Seam ripper Denim needle (size 90) Zip Zip foot Polypropylene webbing, 4cm (1 5/8") wide If you’ve been glued to The Great British Sewing Bee and feel inspired to get involved, this upcycle from their amazing new book will kick off your hobby nicely. Focusing on getting creative and giving old materials a new purpose, this fun project shows you how to turn a pair of jeans into an easy-wear pinafore, transformation challenge-style. Working against the clock is totally optional. 01 Lay out the jeans and unpick the inside leg seams up to the crotch seam. Using a seam ripper is easiest, but you could use a pair of embroidery scissors – just make sure not to cut through the fabric. 02 Decide how…
