Just what I needed! I got a parcel at work today, from my parents. Inside were a pair of my son’s pyjamas left behind after a recent visit (“Folded neatly under the pillow,” said the note – Mum would never miss an opportunity to praise a grandson.) Also, two presents from my dad: a bag of liquorice allsorts and butterscotch lollies for the boys (such grandad lollies!), and a silver necklace for me – a belated birthday present. What an interesting read about the couples who are living apart. I’ve always thought of a long-term relationship as one where you eventually move in together as ‘the next step’, but I suppose for fiercely independent people, that’s not at all what they might want. After reading about Lisa Scott who came out of a 15-year relationship and felt she had been surrendering her independence for others, I definitely understand the ‘living apart together’ idea a bit more. I think surrendering your independence for partners and family is something many of us can relate to. Uplifting to see how living apart is working for these couples.
