welcome

Thank you, NEXT... Many of the stories in NEXT revolve around change. We talk about listening to gut instinct when making decisions. We discuss how much we benefit from putting ourselves out there. We encourage each other to be brave. So it was inevitable that at some point, the desire for change would come and grab me. What I’m trying to say is; this is my final issue as editor of NEXT. After 13 years in magazine publishing I’ve decided to take my career in a new direction. I’m excited to do so, but very sad to say goodbye to this title. It’s been an absolute privilege to have had a job like this, writing for passionate, smart, driven, funny women like you. My ambition at NEXT was to create a community…

all the love

What an incredible friendship Toni Street and Sophie Braggins must have! I’ve been following their journey and it was such a joy to see baby Lachlan clearly so happy and loved by both women in your August issue. Carrying a baby and bringing it into the world is such a wonderful, unique experience, and I can only imagine how much more so it would have been for two friends sharing this journey together. How lucky this child is to be surrounded by both families and growing up with such an appreciation for how he came about. Your story was a heart-warming read on surrogacy and on how it really can be an option for women who may not be able to carry a baby themselves. REAL-GOOD RURAL READ Being a city girl…

the hot list

1 THE PREQUEL… It’s been three months since Game of Thrones’ final episode screened, but it’s not really farewell to this fictional world because GoT author George RR Martin and showrunner Jane Goldman have been hard at work on a spin-off series. Set in the Age of Heroes, about 5000 years before the events of GoT, there’s no Jon Snow (sob!) or Iron Throne, no King’s Landing and no Targaryens, but Josh Whitehouse of Poldark fame, Naomi Watts and Miranda Richardson have all signed on to star and began filming in Belfast, Ireland in May. 2 THE FASHION LABEL… Online store Ellis and Friends has released a range of natural-toned garments that are not only office-friendly but also incorporate recycled fabric – some from a luxury design house in Europe. What’s…

My week: The nature of my job means I don’t really have a typical working week. I love that my hours and work are always different – it keeps things fresh and stops me getting bored. Five days a week, I start the day with a workout. I’m currently doing F45, which I absolutely love. The format works well for me as I’m a big fan of high-intensity interval training. From there, I go home to shower, down a protein shake and a coffee, then head off to work. I usually arrive early to ensure I know my lines and have an idea of what my day is going to look like. As far as wellbeing goes, I use my time in the make-up chair to zen out for a moment…
