new beginnings

As I write this letter, 2021 is just a few weeks away—a new year and the promise of a fresh start. While the pandemic continues to shutter businesses and keeps us from seeing loved ones, hope is on the horizon. Just yesterday, the first COVID-19 vaccines were administered to frontline workers at Boston Medical Center. And more help and hope are on the way. With brighter days ahead, we celebrate the Best of the North Shore Wedding Awards in this winter issue. While many nuptials were put on hold this past year, we still want to honor those businesses that help create the magic behind matrimony—no matter how small the wedding. I am hoping all of our BONS Wedding Award winners can once again start planning larger weddings for brides and…

mini matrimony

For public settings and event venues, gatherings can be up to 25 people indoors and no more than 50 outside. So what has driven the popularity of pocket-size weddings? The reasons are many, says Janie Haas of Janie Haas Events, who has planned numerous mini weddings during COVID-19. “Some couples had the venue or vendors under contract, so decided to get married and have a big celebration at a later date,” she says.…

inside andover

Andover has faced some major challenges in recent years. In September 2018, a series of gas fire and explosions ripped through the town, and neighboring North Andover and Lawrence, injuring dozens, killing one, damaging buildings, and shutting down businesses. It took months for service to be restored and repairs to be completed. Then, just as the community was recovering from the disaster, the coronavirus hit, bringing with it mandated closures and economic uncertainty. Today, however, after two years of evolving and adapting, the town is emerging poised for a future that is better than ever, with a thriving downtown that increasingly draws in locals and visitors and plans for even more retail space and eateries on the horizon. This resilience, say local business owners, can be credited to a strong community that believes…
