giving care

This March’s health and wellness issue, perhaps above all others, makes me realize that we are truly blessed to live in an area where there are so many organizations—and people—caring, supporting, and championing those in need, whether it’s through a program such as Our Neighbors’ Table, which works to fight food insecurity on the North Shore; Self Esteem Boston, which gives women tools to help build their self-worth; the Ruderman Family Foundation, which fights for the rights of those with disabilities; Wellspring House’s MediClerk, which provides educational services and job training for the medical administrative field; or Sailing Heals, which gives cancer patients a chance to forget about their illness for an afternoon while on Marblehead Harbor. Along with all of these stellar organizations, we also feature Castle Connolly’s Top…

Hi Nancy, I just wanted to thank you for publishing my article on Helen Sides in the Northshore Home Winter issue. I thought the pictures were excellent, especially the one of her. Thank you also, for mentioning it in your editor’s letter as well. She is very pleased, and so was the homeowner, Alan November. Writer Maggie Meahl Nancy, Northshore Home has done it again! What a great story Kiley Jacques wrote about the high-performance, energy-efficient home we built in Boxford. The article does such a nice job capturing all the special features that went into creating a near net-zero home that achieves the homeowners’ goal of minimizing their carbon footprint. Kudos to Kiley Jacques for explaining the technicalities in a way that readers can digest the details. Susan Howell, Howell Custom Building Group…

new noodles

It may be unusual to call a plate of noodles seductive, but when you see those created by Rachel Miller’s capable hands, that’s exactly what comes to mind. Dishes like Mi Xao Don (crispy egg noodles topped with plump scallops and a ginger-scallion vinaigrette) and Banh Canh (a chicken curry soup glistening with fat rice noodles) entice diners with a heady blend of scent, texture and flavor at her new restaurant, Nightshade Noodle Bar in Lynn. You might not find those specific dishes when you arrive—the growing menu changes frequently. But don’t worry—it’s all good. Miller, who has worked in some of Boston’s top restaurants, such as Clio and Bondir, is mixing favorites from her wildly popular Nightshade pop-up repertoire, which drew raves around the North Shore and in Boston, with…
