MASERATI has launched a performance-focussed, Trofeo version of the Ghibli saloon. It joins the new Quattroporte Trofeo in the brand’s assault on its German rivals and will go on sale later this year, with cosmetic tweaks and a new engine.
The twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 develops 572bhp and 730Nm of torque, which is some 40bhp fewer than the BMW M5. But, with a top speed of 202mph, the Ghibli is quicker than its BMW and Mercedes-AMG rivals, while 0-62mph takes 4.3 seconds.
The Ghibli Trofeo is rear-wheel drive only and has no configurable four-wheel-drive system – just an eight-speed automatic transmission, a prop shaft and a mechanical limited-slip differential on the rear axle.
