FIVE YEARS IN, Planet Rockstock – Planet Rock’s very own bespoke gathering – has become one of the highlights of the rock calendar, but it’s a festival that nearly never was. The inaugural event in Great Yarmouth in 2013, headlined by Uriah Heep, Hawkwind and The Temperance Movement, came within an inch of getting flooded, with a full site evacuation on the eve of its opening. Thankfully, at Rockstock’s new location at Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Porthcawl, on the coast of South Wales, proceedings have run far more smoothly, with the likes of Rival Sons, The Darkness, Black Stone Cherry, Steve Harris’ British Lion and Michael Schenker headlining rambunctious, sold-out weekends.
