welcome!

Sitting at my desk, at home of course, looking out the window, the sky is blue, the sun is shining and immediately my spirits are lifted. It’s amazing what a little sunlight can do! And with it the promise of warmer, longer days, hopefully spent outdoors. So with this in mind, we chose the projects in this issue to celebrate the new season. Our cover quilt, by the talented Nicola Dodd, was inspired by the iconic William Morris print, the Strawberry Thief. We love how Nicola used a dark background to add a bold touch to her design. We are also excited to share the first design in our new seasonal cushion series. Yasmeen K Branton has created a spring cushion that will have you dreaming of long days in…

little quilts collection

When designer, Deirdre Bond-Abel, approached me with the idea of doing a supplement of mini/little quilts, I fell in love with the idea. Not only had Deirdre already come up with a plan for nine “little quilts” as she likes to call them, but a whole back story to them and why they were made too. And so The Gallagher Girls were born! Nine sisters who wanted to make a quilt for the wedding anniversary of their parents. They each made a small quilt to test their pattern to keep for themselves. They then remade their small quilts, using different fabrics, and combined them into one large quilt to present to their parents. Of the nine quilts, five feature a combination of piecing and appliqué, and four are made from…

Mesmerising diamonds The government lockdown put an end to my 60th birthday plans in March 2020, but my spirits were lifted when my son’s gift was an annual subscription of Today’s Quilter! I have always loved William Morris designs, and the William Morris fat quarters that came as a subscription welcome gift went beautifully with the few that had already been bought by my other son. Being fairly new to quilting, I am really pleased with my Diamond Irish Chain quilt, which I finally managed to finish last week. It feels like my birthday is never ending with the surprise of each monthly issue arriving through the letter box, full of inspiration for my next project! Janet, Darlington We’re so glad you love your TQ mags, Janet! Your quilt is delightful. Nouveau lotus buds! I…
