The main battery on the Big Bus was showing signs of failing, in fact I needed to use my battery jump pack to start it, before heading off on holiday. In theory, my particular pack holds enough charge to start the van three or four times. One assumes that the journey down to North Devon more than charged the battery up, it certainly started and restarted several times on arrival. Mid-way through the fortnight I started the van to see if it was holding its charge, it started without hesitation, as it did on the morning I was due to leave. As I was preparing to leave a very forlorn looking camping neighbour approached the cab and asked through the open window if I had a battery pack with me,…

love at first sight

When the time came to change her unreliable Range Rover, it just felt right for Sarah Cowell to start looking for a campervan, even though she’d be using it as her daily driver as well. “I saw pictures of a couple of buses on the Salop Vans website that caught my eye, including this 2016 Kombi. However when I went to see them in the flesh, this is the one that I fell in love with! I bought it as a three year old and it was in great condition. They certainly take pride in the vehicles they sell. Not only did it look fab on the forecourt, it looked even better on the day I went to collect it”. Salop had repainted the T6’s coachwork in these very subtle two-tone…

maiden voyage

The timing couldn’t have been better; arriving at Leverburgh on the southern shores of Harris at around 6pm, right on cue for some unbelievably fresh fish and chips from The Anchorage Restaurant, Café and Bar, it always tastes better when you are in the van and don’t need to cook it! Having had what felt like the Uists and Barra to ourselves the previous week, it quickly became apparent that Harris was going to be a lot busier and slightly more challenging, when it came to finding a good spot for the night. Without hanging around, we set off in a clockwise direction up towards the absolutely stunning Luskentyre beach. We soon realised that all of the random places to park overlooking the bay were all taken by people with the…

A few years back, Chris Gore owned a Nissan Elgrand, he’d bought it from a Baptist Minister in London, who had used it to help move members of his congregation around. Chris found the vehicle very comfortable, and the minivan got a good workout on a trip to Spain that Chris and his son, Fraser made, and still remember as one of the best they’ve been on. The Elgrand was in day-van configuration for that trip to the most southerly points of the Spanish mainland and they came back via the ferry from Santander. On the van’s return Chris decided to sell it and buy a Vespa scooter, he kept that for a year, but missed van life and so decided to get back to it. But made the decision, a…
