SA singer-actress LOIS DU PLESSIS shares her fave things on page 38. * Tell us about a time when you felt fabulous. A few years ago, I got glammed up for a ball in honour of the volunteers at a church I attended while living in the US. I wore a long red dress, had my hair and make-up done, and felt so regal. * What’s your favourite fashion item? Any of the Adidas jackets I’ve collected on my travels, but the navy blue corduroy one I bought in New Zealand tops the list. anything you love works, right?

Taylor Schilling, 35, made a name for herself as prison inmate Piper Chapman in the hit Netflix Originals series Orange is the New Black (OITNB). The show is based on real-life US writer Piper Kerman’s memoir about her time spent in a women’s prison for money laundering and drug trafficking. The series launched in 2013 and has since become the most-watched Netflix Originals show to date. Taylor and her brother Sam grew up in Boston, and split their time between their divorced parents Patricia and Robert. She’s also appeared in films like The Lucky One and Argo, and is now in the seventh and final season of OITNB. Taylor is single and lives in New York with her French bulldog, Tank. I have to say, I loved wearing the orange jumpsuit…

taylor in real life...

Flower girl The actress partnered with US skincare brand Origins on a project to plant trees for Earth Month a few years ago. Part of the campaign was to ‘kiss the planet’; we love her flower pout. Watch out! Taylor stepped out with actor James Marsden and model Adriana Lima to attend an IWC watch event in Geneva. The woods In another unique nature conservation campaign, Taylor took a #selflessselfie in a redwood forest to help raise awareness about the declining bee population in the US. Puppy love Taylor is a total dog lover, and posted this sweet image on Instagram, captioned ‘Dog day afternoon’. Bonjour! Looking fabulous in Paris alongside her girlfriends and fellow OITNB castmates, Uzo Aduba, Laverne Cox and Laura Prepon. A glam girl gang, if ever there was one!…

getting ‘work’ done

Is cosmetic surgery a good idea? I have started researching cosmetic procedures. Yes, really. I never thought I’d reach the point where I’d look in the mirror and think, “Perhaps a lower-face thread lift wouldn’t be such a bad idea.” But then my skin had never before slid off my jawbone and formed dumplings where my chin used to be. A kind friend calls this “a loss of definition”, but we all know what that’s code for. Jowls. Look, I’ve always subscribed to the theory that it’s best to age naturally. I just wanted to look like the best version of me – that’s what I told myself. But jowls are a bit of a deal-breaker. If you have them, you’ll know what I mean. If you don’t, then I’m sorry, but…

how to be an optimist in an uncertain world

‘Uncertainty is the only certainty. Knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security’ Times of great change can make us feel the world’s spinning too fast and the floor is shifting under our feet. If life today has proven anything, it’s that things we believed would last forever aren’t as permanent as we thought, and we have little idea what the future might bring. Whenever we feel overwhelmed, it’s easy to turn turbulence into a full-on crisis in our minds. Here, we say stop... breathe. There’s always a bright side, and we have six ways to help you find it. 1 WISE UP Our brains are wired to react to uncertainty with fear, but this may lead to poor decision-making, which will only make us feel more out of control. We…
